Game ball
Was thinking last night (a rarity for me) about the Houston game and think the key point of the game was whoever chased down Catalon on the long middle screen pass. I thought he had scored from my viewpoint but someone made him step out of bounds around the 5. From there, 3 stops and a missed chip shot and we were on the way to the win. Had Catalon scored the momentum could have flipped. To me that was the biggest play of the game and a game ball to whomever it was that chased him down.

My thought immediately after that play was that last year, the DB would have quit on the play and let him score...and last year, there would not have been a goal line stand like that. I agree that was the clincher. I kept worrying in the 2nd half how our guys would respond if Houston got to within one score and they had several opportunities. Even that late in the game, I did not want to see them get back to within 2 scores.

Re: Game ball
Biggest play of the game was absolutely the "fake" punt after Houston just scored to make it 28-14. We did not want to give the ball right back to Houston after a quick 3 and out. That was a great read by Sackville. No way that was called.

Re: Game ball
When I watched the game again (because it was so fun to watch the first time I had to do it again), I thought I saw them completely vacate one side like they did on the fake punt on a previous punt attempt. Great play called or not...

Re: Game ball
You could feel a momentum shift beginning after the three and out and I think the fake punt was the play of the game. That being said the tackle at the five by (Clemons?) and the third down tackle by Carroll at the goal line wow...
Re: Game ball
I'm going to game ball the coaching staff. They got kids healthy, coached up, and kept their collective foot on Houston's neck the whole game, instead of trying to "carefully" play call.
SMU won the game on big plays, not sustained drives. That means you are constantly pushing the envelope of ability for your own team, something that should have happened against Tulsa. Nice to see our coaches are growing too.
They capitalized on Houston errors (Proche being virtually unguarded) and on constant pressure. Ward sitting on the ground in the early 4th quarter after a sack was the end of the game from a mental standpoint by the Cougars. They got punched in the gooch, continually, for the first time this year.

I've watched it like 3 times again lol. I was very impressed by Carroll. Especially on that stop on the goal line against Catalon. That's what a linebacker is supposed to do! Good on him, hope he continues to play well.

Re: Game ball
game balls from Tulane to Deon Green for an incredible 1st down saving tackle and to Shelby Walker for a clutch catch on the sideline on that last drive
