Herman is down at UH trash talking our program and Morris has never done anything like that. Speaking for myself only, not sure I would want someone like Herman representing us. I think he's a great coach and was a good hire for Houston.

And Herman doesn't seem like the type to get along very well with Turner.

CM was absolutely the right hire and "wanted" this job in his hometown.

No.

Is he perfect? No.

He'll get it turned, we'll start winning 9 games then people will start nitpicking his game time decision making (many did at Clemson actually).

Then they'll be begging him to stay when the big time programs come calling.

Zero regrets hiring Morris. The dude is a boss, and he will get it done here.

Morris has been solid. I think Herman would've used different tactics at SMU but he'd have rubbed some brass the wrong way with facility and support demands in year 1. He was at Rice and Ohio State before.

Seth Littrell at UNT seems like a good hire since the SMU game. Pulled the Bama transfer QB and has his guy. Makes a guaranteed $800K, not $1.5M. Assistants make about $1.4M which is solid money for a program without a ton of support. Fritz probably gets less support, at least in attendance, at Tulane.

I keep thinking back to Hayden Fry's first two years although someone who was closer to the program and / or who has a younger memory may correct me.

SMU played everyone close in Fry's first season while winning only two games and the thought in spring practice was that if SMU could find 28 more points, or anyway some small number, that the W - L record would be a lot better. Actually there were injuries and flunk outs and the record didn't change much.

In the first season of Chad Morris we played well for a half against some stronger teams but only had two wins and that was more than the expectations of some. Going in to this season there were few on this board that saw more than four wins. The number of injuries this season is certainly significant and possibly similar to what Fry dealt with in his second year. In spite of that we have four wins and who can say, one more may be possible.

Certainly the special teams play has been lousy and really, the wheels came off last week.

I'm hoping things will be better in the remaining games this season AND am looking forward to BB and to 2017 Mustang football.

Remember that Hayden Frye came to SMU intent on establishing a running game/attack at a time when he had a sophomore QB named Jerry Rhome who was the 4th leading passer in the nation. At the time SMU had a passing game tradition epitomized with Don Meredith just prior to Rhome. Rhome transferred to Tulsa and became one of the most prolific passers in NCAA history and had a reasonable career in the NFL. Frye would have been much more successful if he had adapted to the passing game and used the skills of Rhome for his first 2 years. Also, remember that frosh were not eligible to play until 1968 and a coach never got any instant relief from his recruiting which was always a year later. Hence, it was much more difficult to build a program when Frye became the coach.
