Students were behind our bench at Baylor.

I believe that was a CUSA rule. Not sure if it is for AAC or not.

I believe that was just CUSA. In fact I think that was referred to as the bobby knight rule, from our basketball game that the CUSA comissioner had the bad luck to attend in person.

It is an AAC rule as well.

If we want to talk about improving the experience of attending games, how about we work with hometown AT&T to deliver better cell service at the stadium. Multiple times this year I have had no service because the network is overloaded...and it's not like we are selling out the stadium.

That's on the school, not AT&T I already asked.

Damn it. I've been yelling at my Cricket Wireless rep. Guess I owe them an apology.

Oh I agree that it's an issue the school should solve. This has been going on for several years now and it's absolutely awful that it hasn't been solved yet.

That said, the school should work with AT&T to do it as it's a good PR opportunity for AT&T. Let's say AT&T provides the school repeaters and a public wifi network at a discount and in return is the "official Technology partner of the SMU Mustangs" with mentions in-stadium in a second quarter commercial break at every football game and arena signage at Moody.

Same problem as the IPF. I guess if someone wants to foot the bill it will get done.

Alabama was ranked #1 last year and thousands of students were leaving during the games and not returning. Saban and the University President threaten to take their seats away and imposed other sanctions to keep them in the stadium. Hence, I do not think your quality of competition is the sole and correct answer.

To counter your point and use the Alabama example, winning doesn't put butts in the seats either. My point was simply that young alumni would be more engaged if we at least had a shot at the big boys every year instead of playing in an inferior conference against "no-name" competition to the average person

half these reports of low attendance at P5 games are total BS. Almost all P5 games between traditional or regional rivals are packed and there is record attendance in much bigger stadiums than ever. The games that are attendance drags are when P5 schools play 55-3 blowouts against The School of the Blind/Deaf or North Dakota Lincoln Tech U or the games are scheduled either at poor times or non-traditional days. Nobody ever really gives a damn to watch West Virginia in the Big 12 or Rutgers in the Big 10 or PITT in the ACC. Don't want empty seats then don't schedule [deleted]. mis-matched teams or play at 11:00 am. or Thursday Nite.

Finally, the poor treatment of students and visiting fans contribute to these occasional poor attendance games. Students and visiting fans used to sit between the 40 and 10 yard line at just about every school-now they are often relegated to the end zone and the visiting teams are in the rafters and split off from rest of visiting schools fans

Example almost every contest between regional former SWC members either sells outs (in bigger stadiums) or far exceeds attendance between those schools when they were members of SWC
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.

In 1970 and non SWC games in 1971, SMU students got to sit between the 20 and 50 yard lines at the Cotton Bowl. Too bad it was in the upper deck on the east side of the stadium. The band was on the other side between the end zone and 10 yard line, on the lower level, south end.

The fun part about using the east side entrance was that was where cowboy "Crazy Ray" performed while selling programs. Squirrel in a cardboard box.
