But I thought they had to be from Dallas for Coach Tubbs to be considered a success?
You're exactly right, of course.

This thread has taken an interesting turn. To keep on the curve and take East's post a little further, it would seem from my limited experience that most of your top talent anywhere in the country seeks exposure. Of course, kids in a region will generally be attracted to programs from the region, but it moves in relation to exposure. That exposure does come in many forms. Example I find interesting is P.J. Tucker at ut. He was a hot recruit from a bball crazy zone, but he chose ut since the big three of NC were a bit hesitant due to his poor academics. Barnes came in and told the kid he could come play, and play for a crowd.

Here in college hoops hell, duke and unc can go anywhere for anyone. Of course, they have first dibs on the NC kids, but the recognition of duke and unc is huge. Not only is the acc fanatical about hoops, but the teams carry national recognition. Crowds are big, tv big, radio big.

I feel that being in CUSA will help SMU in getting exposure. Playing in NC will be big, as well as any trips to FL. SMU can offer a good academic experience, and get the kids some attention. Getting the kids from TX will be good, but now Tubbs and Bennett can have a look from a growing region of recruits. As East pointed out, you get the best from wherever you can.
