Yep nephew of Arthur and son of Quincey who signed and briefly played at SMU. Great story about the family bloodlines

early 70s I believe-I think he only lasted about 1 year-maybe mrydel knows. I remember he was from the same Class as another SMU recruit-Marion Harper who I think may have gotten injured during SMU career. Cuero went undefeated for about 3 years during that period. Also home of All-Time SMU great OLM Henry Sheppard

oh SMU signed another Quincey Whittington in about 2008 too-he was also the nephew of Arthur-only lasted a year at SMU too.

I do not recall a Quincey. But I am old and senile.

Looks like Quincey Whittington Sr was in Class of 1976. Some of you might have seen that FoxSW special on the dominance of the 1970 Cuero Gobblers-similar to the one on the history of Highland Park Football. Cuero was 54-2 and won 44 straight games in early 70s

Cuero: Home of the Gobblers and the great Putt Choate who returned an interception 109 yards for a TD against Tulane in a game played at the Cotton Bowl in '77 I believe.

Does Putt Choate still hold the record for tackles in a single game? Didn't he have something ridiculous like 30 tackles in a game???

Chote played at Coahoma High School. Yeah he had 30 tackles in final game, against Arkansas, SMU played in the Cotton Bowl before moving to Texas Stadium. I think he had about 215 tackles in one year alone

I had to go back and look it up. Put Choate holds the records for career tackles (649) with nobody even close to him as well as the single season record (253 and again nobody even close to that number) but Champ Dickerson holds the single game record with 32 tackles against Ohio State in 1977. Putt had 31 tackles against A$M in 1976, 28 tackles against Penn State in 1978 and 27 against A$M in 1977. Pretty impressive that Putt and Champ lined up together at linebacker for SMU in those days

That's right he played at Coahoma not Cuero. His family has been in the oil business out in Big Spring for many years but I heard that Putt lives in Dallas. Maye he looks at this board sometimes.
