By getting a corporate sponsor!
It was said some of the money is coming from past bball players. Still $6M short of the goal. We need T Bone Hunt, or T Bone Dedman, or Bush Stadium? - somebody, please step up....If I had a few million lying around that would be nice.

Copeland Notes:
"We have several facility enhancement projects in various stages at the present time. They include a basketball practice facility, Westcott Field enhancement and a golf practice facility at Dallas Athletic Club. Plans are in place for the basketball practice facility, which would be constructed just South of Haggar Tennis Stadium. We continue to work with architects to refine the final costs and facility design. A committee is in place to assist in uncovering potential major donors and fundraising on the project is on-going.

The practice facility will be a first class building that will serve our student-athletes and coaches well and will be invaluable in recruiting. Included will be coaches offices and locker rooms for the men's and women's programs, a strength and conditioning area, training room, a video viewing area and two practice courts."

Maybe the best part (after the actual playing surface) of the bball practice facility is the part about better locker rooms.

There's no reason that SMU should be forced to count on corporate donations. BU raised the money for theirs entirely through private donations.

They sound like somewhat similar facilities...two practice courts, coaches offices, meeting rooms, weight room, but BU's is attached to Ferrell Center and SMU's will be stand-alone. The other difference is that SMU's will have locker rooms for the players.

BU's costs about $8 million, so I'm guessing somewhere around $10 mil on SMU's.

There is a big difference, Baylor seems to care about their athletic programs.

that about sums it up for SMU. Only 3700 at the conference opener last night...and that's with the students back on campus? There just aren't enough people who care about SMU athletics. We really depend on wealthy contributors.

After almost two decades of a zero committment by the school to have successful football and basketball programs, can you really blame the students and fans for not coming out to watch? It has gotten old seeing the team lose on such a regular basis. Tubbs might have been a great highschool coach and a solid recruiter/assistant coach, but so far, it looks like he might be in over his head. I hope he does succeed, but given his ability to not land any "stud" dallas players in the last two years....it's not looking very likely.

I don't think the students are back. NO cheerleaders or band was there. I would imagine they start school on Monday.

Fraternity/Sorority Rush... House parking lots were full of Christmas presents... but it did not look like the ballgame was on the agenda for rush week.

Let's clear up some misconceptions. Students are not back, greeks and rushees are back. I don't think they suspend rush rounds for the game. And I don't think they should be criticized for not doing something so absurd.

Agreed mustangnation. I would have guessed 1,500 fans were actually in attendance at most.
