He told me himself. But you can see that McDowell plays with abandon while Wilson is trying to learn the ropes. I think it's just a question of physicality right now. Dashawn has it. Hopefully they both gel with time.

McDowell had a pass that made me do a double and tripple take as I didn't see it coming or going. It was a great assist

That was a great pass. His hustle and D are really good. He seems like if he develops he could be the unheralded hustle/glue guy for us over the next 3 years.

That pass was ridiculous. Seriously the only pass all night worth a damn.

I'm not saying I prefer Wilson to Dashawn, just that I think his skillset is more differentiating, for this team, at this time. If Sterling isn't going to hunt his own looks on all 3 levels, and Ben E is going to continue his abysmal shooting, I'd rather see Wilson get burn. He has a defined skill that is also the easiest way to get points. Spot the rim, mechanics, release.

Granted they are two different players. I think what is intended all along is that they both are functional and contributing by conference time and getting significant minutes in February-March. That requires burn right now.

I bet we see a "ton-o-Tom" tomorrow night.

Yep. We need another offensive weapon (shooter) off the bench. Having Mcdowell and Gu on the court at the same time really hurts the offense.

Not seeing what everyone else sees in Wilson. I think he gets manhandled. Cant create his own shot. Is pretty small which hurts in traffic. In my view not the answer to a need for guard points.

he's a bit slow on D, but he may be our best 3 point shooter. McDowell turned down several open looks from downtown, which i'm sure Wilson would've pulled the trigger on.

Partly because they leave him open and can sag down and play help D since he isn't a threat. Not advocating for more Wilson over Mc, because he hasn't shown a lot, but unless Gu or McDowell show more offensively we need to give him a shot because he can hit 3's, he had open looks against EMU and took em. Between tomorrows game and TCU (outside of USC) we need to see what exactly we have with each of the freshman with some extended minutes.

Agreed. Easiest way to score points is flicking your wrist. He may not be ready, not sure, but he has a defined skill that we need. I like what I see in Dashawn, but he's passing up tons of open looks. heck, Feo needs burn and 3s as well. Ultimately, this team isn't deep. You can't hide the frosh. They have to play or the starting 6 will burn themselves out.

that all makes sense for sure. Wasn't McDowell thought of as at least a reliable shooter in open space out of high school? If it is confidence that will come quickly, and if he can do even that, I would think he should be on the floor a ton. He just looked like the only guy at Michigan game that was interested in distributing the ball where it needed to go vs just dribbling around the perimeter.

Guess I saw his play as about the only bright spot in that game.

There were a couple more:

We had zero problems with breaking the press and getting the ball up the floor and Gu showed again that he is a reliable backup who shouldn't shoot much but can hold his own on anything else expected of him. That's about it.
