Can someone explain why so many on here want Van to become the head coach? Don't get me wrong I like him and he's done a great job with the defense but he has ZERO head coaching experience and has only been a coordinator for 2 years.

Depends on how many people turn down the job.

I'd like to see him stay as DC.
Liked his ball hawking defense this year, but it's not like he's won a couple of state championships as a HS head coach, and then went on to being a college super DC.

May the forth be with us.

Agree with this. The massive improvement year over year has been so obvious it's not even funny. Maybe a bit of that Morris buyout as a raise for Van to keep him here?

Why have we not received an email from the athletic department? If the guy has accepted another job I assume he has notified SMU. Turner and Hart need a press conference, or at least send an email/letter out to us season ticket holders. Sick to death of reading about this from other sources.

If Chad leaves, why the hell wouldn't Van Malone go with him or why would the new coach keep him? That's now how this [deleted] works.

I think if you give a guy like Van the job, who admittedly has limited experience, at least you've got a guy who will truly appreciate the opportunity and not abandon ship the first chance he gets. Besides, it could keep some recruits here and the players like him. Just get a good staff around him. I think he could be successful here and would stay here.

With more money to spend on assistants, let's see who he retains. I don't want the leftovers, I want a fresh start with our new HC bringing in his guys.

These are the same guys that reported it done yesterday after which Baylor said they have not contacted any coach directly or through a 3rd party and would not do so until after the season.
Looks like it is a done deal but I do not expect any verification until Saturday night or Sunday.
I just hope we are ready to be proactive in a new hire.

The only recruits we will keep are the ones CM doesn't want. NO THANK YOU.
You realize how important this next hire is????????
You want to entrust that to Van Malone???? That's crazy talk.

Wouldn't have a problem with giving Van a shot. Use the BU buyout money to surround him with a killer offensive staff. Van is very highly regarded in the Houston area.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Sounds like what Houston did with Tony Levine.
