I don't know if the purchase was actually made. If so, I hope that he offers to buy it and take it to Baylor with him and certainly think SMU should let it go at cost, perhaps wrapped with a red and blue ribbon.
I understand that money talks but wonder if he will dicker for a "no buyout" clause should ATM offer in a year or two.
Word I heard is that he did get an "out" clause for TAM

I'd love to get anybody that will stay for 5 years and be productive not whining about facilities. My oldest son that graduated from UCF said that our schools UCF SMU are stepping stones and that will never change so deal with it. I wish Chad well, don't think you're taking the fu%=en helicopter with you though.
Your son is right. That's why we need to get a great retread coach (LB ) or Charlie that is already rich but still has a passion for the game or something to prove to the world. If that doesn't exist - and they are few and far between- then we are going to continue to have the coaching carrousel spin. Just hope when we lose one its for their success at SMU.

O'Leary was toxic when he went to UCF and then killed a kid while there. I doubt a lot of schools were after him. Worked out very well for UCF.

Baylor is not going to have any problems for long.
Penn State was able to revive itself from probably the worst ever scenario in college football how many years has it been now three

Hell Baylor is going to have a helluva recruiting class-this year-Baylor will benefit from the hard work they put in as employees of SMU. But I think he goes hard after the Texas 100 not just SMU's Class. The State of Texas is in major flux

He will try to take the top 5-6 out of our class. He may be surprised the BU situation will scare off kids with real choices. While he will go after the Top 100, they all have choices beyond the state.....

The NCAA already gave Baylor an early Christmas present by stating that they don't intend to treat criminal actions/Title IX violations as major NCAA violations. Still could be a tickin' time-bomb though because actual NCAA violations could come out

If employed and recruiting for the school there should be a contractual Clause that states that you will not attempt to take the ones you've contacted with you if you should choose to leave to go to another Collegiate environment.
Something similar to a non-compete clause.
It's near impossible to say You must stay here for 5 years so what else could one possibly do

Besides the money (and that is a BIG beside) why would he go to Baylor? Success at SMU is all he needs to step into a real job. The Baylor dung heap has to be the worst P5 position in the land. He has everything to lose and nothing to gain (except $) by going there. Rutgers, Syracuse, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt would all be a major step up from that he11 hole in Wacko. If things continue to hit the fan at Baylor I can see him having to recycle as a coordinator or coach at a FCS school in 2-3 years.

I don't blame him for saying yes to doubling your salary and moving up the NCAA pecking order. I personally think he could do better but its his call. No need to denigrate the guy - he worked hard and did what he said. No complaints. These guys don't coach for life anymore.
Next mercenary please. Hope he is a good one.
If he goes to Baylor and guts this recruiting class, then I will be free to slam him... he was recruiting these kids while paid by SMU.. If he gets away with minimal damage to recruiting class then I am fine. I still don't believe he leaves for Baylor. If he does, I wish him nothing but failure.

Lots of coaches have out clauses for their dream school. Bottom line is no one knows if Sumlin will be fired anytime soon.
