PSU wins big 10So glad Pedophile State could overcome those tough NCAA sanctions after all these years and finally get back to winning.
They'll really think twice before covering up child rape again after having to suffer through all that! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Re: PSU wins big 10And of course the students rioted on campus and the State College police had to break out the tear gas and rubber bullets.
What a great school. The whole thing is just disgusting. Shake It Off Moody
Re: PSU wins big 10Lets see.....4 years after Pedo State received what was reported in the media to be the some of the most severe punishments ever handed down by the NCAA they are Big 10 champs.
Meanwhile 30 years later and counting lil SMU is still trying to recover. Hmmm.... child rape vs paying players.....I wonder which one was more damaging to the involved parties....
PSU wins big 10And Ohio State goes to the playoff. So much for the "Not having a conference championship game hurts a team" theory.
GO MUSTANGS!
Re: PSU wins big 10
Exactly why Big XII will never expand. One true champion!
Re: PSU wins big 10Even worse, they do have a championship game in the Big 10. It just does not matter.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: PSU wins big 10I hate the incongruous nature of it all. The NCAA should either stick to conference champions or go by best 4 teams. If it is the best 4 teams and winning your conference is a requirement then it should be Alabama, Clemson, Washington, and Penn State or Oklahoma. If it is the best 4 teams (eye test) then I would probably choose Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, and USC. I don't like that Houston was eliminated from the Cotton Bowl before their loss to Memphis, simply because they were eliminated from winning the conference championship whereas Ohio State is in the playoff and they also did not win their conference championship.
Re: PSU wins big 10
exactly...so when the Big XII has three 8-1 teams what's going to matter is who they lost to in conference play and who they beat in the non-conference. Bottom line in all of this is that the playoffs need to be expanded to 8 with all 5 P5 Champs invited and 3 wild cards
Re: PSU wins big 10
Can't exclude Michigan from any argument about who the best 4 teams might be. But for that spot against Ohio State, they would have been Big 10 Champs and would be in ahead of Ohio State, Oklahoma and USC. No matter how many teams are selected to participate, there is going to be controversy but there are easily 8 teams worthy of competing for the National Championship, including Ped State, Michigan, Oklahoma and USC in addition to the 4 that were selected...but that's not necessarily who would have earned toe wild card invites in an 8 team playoff.
PSU wins big 10Can't expand to 8. This is a reality tv show. If you go to 8 you take away from the regular season and take the drama out of the selection process. It's not fair, you don't get the best 4 teams, conference championships don't matter, but everyone will be talking about this for weeks. And that's what's good for college football.

Re: PSU wins big 10You may be right about playoff never including more than 4 teams. There's probably a better chance of getting to the 4 "Super Conferences" that were projected back in the 90's. Could happen if/when Texas and OU decide they are tired of the Big XII. With 4 large conferences, the 1st round of 8 teams is basically the conference championship games
Re: PSU wins big 108 would be perfect if you make the P5 conference champions automatic qualifiers, the highest ranked G5 team (conference champion or not) gets an automatic bid. Add 2 wildcard spots for the highest ranked teams regardless of conference affiliation and independent of winning conference championship.
Based on that criteria this year's playoffs would be: 1. Alabama 8. Western Michigan 4. Washington 5. Penn State 2. Clemson 7. Oklahoma 3. Ohio State 6. Michigan
Re: PSU wins big 10
There is no point in getting to 4 super conferences for a 4 team playoff if conference champions are bypassed for other teams.
Re: PSU wins big 10
The whole point of the original proposal to go to 4 super conferences was that the champions would go into a 4 team playoff, so essentially the conference championship games would be like the 1st round. That system would hose the G5 and this year would have excluded Ohio State and Michigan. There will never be a "perfect" system but that's part of what keeps college football entertaining...and has allowed SMU to claim a national championship as part of our football history
