Applewhite got the pass-over by schools for the past few years re. an admitted affair with a student trainer while at Texas...he didn't have the Petrino resume, so programs steered clear. UH took a gamble on potential, and on an affordable, in-house known commodity.

Good for them...He will be highly motivated to show others that they made a mistake for passing over him. It waits to be seen if he will have the same success as the past three UH coaches.

What I'd love to see (assuming Chad leaves next year) is the rivalry between young coaches in Applewhite and Riley. Both could stay at UH/SMU for 5+ years and really develop

Chad isn't leaving us to go anywhere but A&M, and they aren't going to fire Sumlin for winning 8 and 9 games. We have at least two more years of Chad - which I am very happy about. Get ready for some fun!!

So they put their foot down about Briles, but hired someone with a pending lawsuit?

If memory serves, UT players weren't exactly thrilled with him as a coach. I don't think this is a very good hire.

Never said we are.

A ton of Houston people were acting like they would be able to pick from the cream of the crop and they ended up defaulting to promoting a coordinator and probably angering the other coordinator to the point where he will leave. Total fail.
