Redshirted This Past Season?
Can someone help me understand what players were officially redshirted this season?
Looking at our roster here is who I have identified as being redshirted (I could be wrong)
OL Kadarius Smith 6'3" 296

I would think Davis gets a medical also if he chooses to come back. I had heard he is not coming back, but I am not sure.

Man that O line depth is going to go from a weakness to a strength pretty dang fast.

Re: Redshirted This Past Season?
They are trying but under a technical analysis of the 6th year medical waiver rule-Davis would not appear to eligible because he hasn't missed 2 seasons due to injury. Official JUCO stats say he played in 7 game in the only other year in which it appears he was injured.

Man, if Courtland stays, that receiver corps is going to be nasty! Quinn and Proche in the slot, Courtland and maybe Honey (or Benson?) on the outsides then you have Castille and Thomas rotating in plus anyone else who wants to step up hopefully Rau and Becker . . . X Jones, Thomas, West, Freeman in the backfield . . . if our OL can grow up quickly and gel, I'd be salivating if I were a QB (solid 2 deep at WR and 3-4 deep at RB!). I would LOVE to see a great spring competition for once at the QB spot between Hicks, Rafe, and DJ. Spring game might actually be very exciting and possibly (if weather holds) the most attended in lord knows how long. On defensive side, I can't wait to see how McLaurin and Spears look (and hopefully Carmouche . . at LB).
Re: Redshirted This Past Season?
I wonder why DJ would go to Ole Miss and sit behind the 5* that lit up TAMU?
He has a legitimate chance to start / get significant time with us.

Ole Miss signed another JUCO QB over weekend making that less likely

Re: Redshirted This Past Season?
Fair enough, but given our OL and LB struggles this year, I would have liked to have heard something that suggests the OL and LB RS' were playing well enough to "demand" playing time this past Fall. As it relates to the OL, what I read/heard suggested that they were nowhere near "ready" and that concerns me.JasonB wrote:Immediately in the two deep:

Three starters (Saena, McCarty, and Briggs) on the OL are leaving and I saw nothing from their backups that suggests they are ready to be starters. Frankly, with the exception of Natour (who technically backed up Pursley), I saw nothing to suggest any of our OL backups are even ready to be good backups much less step into a starting role.
1st Team: Pursley, Smith, Brown, Wilds, Natour: Ouch
2nd Team: Tadora, ????, ????,????, Barton: Ouch X2.

Re: Redshirted This Past Season?
The fact that Saena and other Juniors weren't renewed tells me SMU has a lot of confidence in the last Class of OLM

I hope you are right. But, if they were that good - at least one of them should have been allowed to play this year.Stallion wrote:The fact that Saena and other Juniors weren't renewed tells me SMU has a lot of confidence in the last Class of OLM

Re: Redshirted This Past Season?
Not necessarily. They might not have been physically ready yet, or, Morris wanted to stockpile some. Or both. He talked about pulling the red shirts on a couple, but OL need a redshirt year if at all possible.Digetydog wrote:I hope you are right. No Offensive Lineman (other than David Richards) should ever play except in an emergency-I admit I thought we had an emergency on our hands after Temple
