Transfers Part of the Sport

Postby Duke Blue Blood » Mon Dec 12, 2016 1:15 am

College Basketball these days is all about transfers. Hate it and hurts the sport, but it is a part of it. Lots of quitters, which we benefitted from initially I may add.

"40% of all MBB players who enter Division I directly out of high school depart their initial school by the end of their sophomore."

"We tracked the 633 MBB student-athletes listed on ESPN’s 2016 transfer list to determine their destination for 2016-17. Only 546 of the players on the list were identified as transferring to another school and joining the basketball team. 46% of the transfers went to another Division I school (often to a less competitive program), while the others typically left for Division II, NAIA or 2-year colleges (Figure 2)."

And just one more reason why this scholarship BS kills us. No answer on the bench.

Snowflakes have invaded. Just because it's a part of the sport doesn't make it good for the teams, the sport, or for themselves. What are they going to do at the first sign of adversity in the "real world" if they don't get what they want Day One?

Well, transferring worked out pretty well for Semi and Nic. And it may work out pretty well for Jimmy Whitt.

Mid-season transfers are a different story. Stupid move by a delusional kid...or a kid who realized he really isn't anything special.

The point is pretty simple. Student-athletes are going to transfer. As long as we make it a net-gain, then it is ok.

Starting with the offseason prior to 2012-13, when Larry Brown was hired, the following transfers have been on our roster (some are from Matt Doherty). I have excluded players that signed but did not enroll like Josiah Turner.

Transfered in:
Nic Moore
Markus Kennedy
Jordan Tolbert
Semi Ojeleye
Ben Emelogu
Crandall Head
Justin Martin
Jimmy Whitt
Shawn Williams
Nick Russell
London "Cotton" Giles

Starting with the offseason prior to 2012-13 the following players were on our roster and transferred out. I have excluded players who simply left the program without transferring to another university such as Justin Martin as he had exhausted his eligibility. Many were the result of forced attrition due to the Larry Brown hire:

Transfered out:
Jalen Jones
Sedrick Barefield
Keith Frazier
Harry Froling
Crandall Head
Jordan Dickerson
Brian Bernardi
Uche Ofoegbu
Blaise Mbargorba
Jeremiah Samarrippas
Ricmonds Vilde
Aliaksei Patsevich
Leslee Smith

If I forgot someone transferring in/out please let me know. It is not because I have an agenda.

Just the start. Check back in a month & see how much the list has grown.

on your transfer out list - quite a few of those were "asked" to leave by LB as part of that transition. They did indeed transfer, but that skews the data a bit I think.

Yes, from the players we lost I would say that Jalen Jones, Sedrick Barefield, Keith Frazier, and Harry Froling are typical transfers and the rest were basically forced attrition. Bernardi could be added to that list.
