Harry Froling transferringModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Harry Froling transferringtitle of this thread is about Froling transferring but he might just be dropping out like his older sister did. His life is about playing basketball, so he's going to do whatever gives him the best shot at doing that. Get over it and let's move on. Will be interesting to see how Jank distributes Froling's minutes

Re: Harry Froling transferringI don't get a chance to read Ponyfans.com as much as I would like, so I'm just seeing this for the 1st time.
Froling has a lot of upside despite the neg comments. Every program needs a big or 2 to have in the wings re: development IMO, and Froling was a good one to have on the roster. Most bigs take time, and it appears Froling was the norm. You can't teach size, but the conditioning, work on quickness, mental toughness, etc.. is something that could have improved. Having said that, & I don't have all the facts, his camp probably feels he's further along in his development than he really is. I look @ all the travel teams, AAU etc, & see kids jumping from team to team on a regular basis. Kids transfer to different high schools, private schools, & it continues into the jr. college ranks, D1 & D2 college ball. Its the culture now. My mindset has changed re: college basketball. When a player signs with a SMU, I looked forward to following their career for 4 years. Now, I just look @ the current roster, enjoy the players for that season, & let the coaches figure out what transfers, jucos, etc. are out there to fill in for next season, a year to year thing. SMU basketball is a revolving door for players, just like a lot of different schools around the country. I don't like it, but it is what it is. I enjoyed watching & following players 4 year careers @ SMU, but it appears that it is becoming a very unique situation as college basketball continues to change. Froling's situation is more of the norm. I hope he finds what he's looking for. I would have loved to see his development over the next couple years. It will be interesting to see what's behind door # 2 when it comes to bigs next season. Is it going to be a Juco, a transfer eligible big man, someone like former Frisco High player, R. J. White @ North Carolina Greensboro. He's 6'8 250lbs & would contribute immediately next season. http://www.uncgspartans.com/ViewArticle ... =209245021 "We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all our games are played indoors."
Re: Harry Froling transferring
Good grief...he got plenty of minutes. He was looking at more as the season went on and he adjusted to the speed of the game. My goodness, to expect more than was given is being selfish and just not being very realistic. Despite the egos, basketball is very much a team game. To give HF more minutes so early in the season would have been at the expense of the team. A good coach will not sacrifice that. Jank didn't. Re: Harry Froling transferring
We have 11 scholarship players for next season right now. You forgot Jarrey Foster. That is (11 s Hollie players actually the number of scholarships we should stay at for the '17-18 and '18-'19 seasons). I think/sounds like we will go sign another Big man or take a big man graduate transfer. Which would put us to 12 but I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up getting it down to 11. I do wish RJ White had another year of eligibility, would be a good grad transfer. @Stallion the NCAA has to give you a waiver to transfer to a 3rd school which they only really do for graduate transfers (see Sterlin Gibbs from uConn last year) He could if he wanted too. Hope he likes SMU. @L4Life I don't get how you can say this falls on Jank. He got a kid who wanted to play for LB. Didn't get the minutes and role he wanted and transferred. He didn't earn being the focal point of the offense of 25 minutes. If you think he did you haven't watched all of our games. He was an improving frosh Big who played a respectable 15mins and averaged 4-3 and played minimal D. Who should he have played over to get more minutes? Semi? Ben Moore? I'm not bashing Fro, but saying it's Jank's fault he came in too slow and no ready for major minutes combine that we have two real solid starting bigs is the reason. You can't let every kid come in and say coach I need more minutes and a bigger role or I'm leaving and say you got it. Fro hadn't earned that. Re: Harry Froling transferringI like the idea of going the graduate transfer route to get another big man. I like that Ray and Chargois committed early and stayed with us. It would be scary having 2 out of 3 big men being freshman, but if thats the case then they will get a lot of experience and it will only make them better for the year after. But I would like to get a graduate big who can jump right in and allow the two freshman to develop a little easier and help teach them. I just think adding a 3rd freshman big would be overkill and not fair to Ray or Chargois
Re: Harry Froling transferring
Yep. I am pro Grad-transfer as well. I think we could use an experienced big to take pressure off the two frosh and give us a more experienced front court. I usually would say taking 3 frosh bigs is unfair to the others but the fact that we would only have one big returning I doubt any of them would think it's unfair. Gives them a better chance to start than if a Grad-Tranfer or Fro was still there. I would rather us take a Grad-transfer unless we can hit a homerun with a Big time prospect. Then go get Grayson Carter and another big in 2018.
Re: Harry Froling transferringThe painful part is Froling was starting to show some potential and none of the other freshies have made any significant contributions in a year when we really could have used a good class.
Not giving up on this season yet, but definitely need an impact class in 2017 (not just on paper). Shake It Off Moody
Re: Harry Froling transferringYes to a grad transfer big!
But this time we want Dirty Harry....not Prince Harry. Party at The Wopper!
Re: Harry Froling transferringIs it also possible that the kid simply misses Australia? Adjusting to college is a difficult thing made even more so by the culture shock of coming to a new country. Sometimes things don't work out. It's too bad but best to just move forward. Have to use the extra scholarship on a big that wants to do dirty work in the post.
Re: Harry Froling transferring^No. He clearly stated he wanted to be the center of the offense and felt we somehow conspired to cheat him of that role.
Re: Harry Froling transferringThe ironic thing is all I heard early on is Wilson was the one homesick and having trouble adjusting. And with Fro having a sister here it was just assumed he was doing well. IMO, this decision came from pressure within his inner circle. If you have Scout, check out the Fro thread where there's a post by someone well connected inside SMU with great recap of what likely happened.
I like Fro and still think he would've been a good player for us but next man up. As DBB said in another thread, transfers happen all the time to college bball programs. Find someone better with the open ship. As for Wilson, I hope he stays. I think he has a lot of talent. He just need confidence and pt. He's definitely going to get pt in the next three months. Bottom line, if you're on our roster I'll support you 100%. If you decide to leave, good luck but I'm not gonna cry about it. We'll find someone better. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four

Re: Harry Froling transferringAnyone who wanted (to $$$) could've heard the story straight from coach at his dinner last night. Basically, Harry's own statement explains it all.
