Niutei commits to TCU

Postby RE Tycoon » Mon Jan 16, 2006 4:32 pm

DMN says he switched from UTEP to TCU...

A weekend visit to TCU was enough to change the mind of Euless Trinity defensive end Henry Niutei.

Niutei, who had originally committed to UT-El Paso, said he told TCU coaches Sunday that he was orally committed to the Horned Frogs. Niutei (6-3, 270) made his decision public on Monday.

Oral commitments are nonbinding. The first day a recruit can sign a national letter of intent is Feb. 1.

In other recruiting news:

•W.T. White tight end Ben Meyer (6-4, 240) said Monday he has orally committed to Yale. He was also considering Princeton and Rice.

•Everman quarterback Maurice Moore (5-11, 165) and Colleyville Heritage defensive back Jay Valai (5-9, 191) both orally committed to Wisconsin. Moore said he picked Wisconsin over Iowa. Valai had committed to Minnesota in December but switched to the Badgers.

•Mansfield offensive lineman Kyle Smith (6-7, 315) and Richland offensive lineman Patrick Blount (6-5, 265) both said they have committed to New Mexico State. Smith was also considering UT-El Paso, New Mexico and Tulane. Blount said he had an offer from Baylor.

•Lufkin running back E.J. Shankle (5-11, 180). No. 50 on Rivals.com’s Texas 100, said he has committed to Texas A&M. Shankle was also considering Texas Tech and LSU.

•Paris North Lamar offensive guard Michael Booker (6-3, 318) said he has switched his oral commitment from TCU to Oklahoma State.

That is too bad. It will be interesting to see if we go after a different DT or OL with the scholarship... Holloway or Shoemaker?

Niutei said that TCU was his choice, but it was close. He felt more at home at TCU. As I pointed out to Stallion, he liked the coaches over there more, which was an important point in the summary article proceeding his visit yesterday.

"I really liked SMU, but it was almost too fancy for me. I just felt TCU was better for me."

It is also hard to believe, but Niutei picked TCU because it was closer to his Euless home. I am sure that the difference was a tire blowing 10 miles. SMU should have offered to let him go to school online, which would have given the ponies the advantage!

BAH!!! Yeah there is a 10-mile difference... in SMU'S FAVOR. We are 10 miles CLOSER to Euless than TCU is!!!!!

Some informed decision making for "kids these days."

Not to mention, it is a lot easier to drive to most of SMU's road games.

Would someone please translate this into old white guy language? What does "too fancy" mean with today's kids?

Does that mean SMU is clean and new and TCU is a dump? Inquiring minds want to know.

That is one strange word to use.

Too fancy? Too bad he's not a basketball recruit. We could've showed him our dinosaur of an arena, and he'd have been ours!

Maybe he'll change his mind.

I would remind him the family will need E S P N the "OCHO" to watch all the MWC games from the West Coast here in DFW.

QUICK! Someone send him a map of the metroplex, and circle TCU, SMU and Trinity High!

(or is that a recruiting violation?)
