Mustangs Defeat Grambling State 56-36 Sunday in Women of Troy Classic
Thomas Scores Career High; Perry Named To All-Tournament Team

LOS ANGELES (SMU) – The SMU women's basketball team never trailed Grambling State as they beat the Tigers 56-36 Sunday afternoon in the consolation game of the Women of Troy Classic. Dai'ja Thomas recorded a career-high 15 points and 11 rebounds en route to the Mustangs' seventh victory of the season.
The Mustangs (7-4) shot 60 percent (9-for-15) from the field in the first quarter, jumping out to a 14 point lead (20-6) over the Tigers (1-9). SMU scored 16 of its 20 points in the paint, as Thomas converted seven of the 16 points for the Mustangs in the first period. Alicia Froling added six points in the quarter to add to SMU's offensive surge.
SMU's offensive success continued in the second quarter as they shot 4-for-9 (44.4 percent) from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. Klara Bradshaw scored three consecutive baskets to give SMU the 26-6 lead in the first three minutes of the second quarter. McKenzie Adams was fouled attacking the basket and converted the extra point with 2:57 left in the second period as the Mustangs ended the half leading by 15.
Froling and Thomas continued to contribute in the second half. Thomas scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds, to end the game with a career-high 15 points and 11 rebounds, the sophomore's second double-double of the season and her career. Froling added seven points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the second half to finish with 13 points and 16 rebounds, tying her season high in rebounds. It marked the junior's 25th career double-double and the seventh of the season.
Adams finished with 11 points and grabbed five rebounds for SMU, marking the third Mustang to score in double figures. Kiara Perry was named to the Women of Troy All-Tournament team. The junior averaged 10.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 4.0 assists for the tournament.
The Mustangs return to Moody Coliseum to host Texas Southern Mon. Dec. 19 at 4 pm CT.
