I agree with birddogger.... We are hardly head and shoulders above Tulane.

They have had good runs in football over the years and we have been on equal or lower standing over the years.

But... I far prefer to NO road trip to Waco, Lubbock, Stillwater, Norman..... You get the point.

Love having Tulane in the league if nothing else for the great road trip and at times - misery loves company.

I don't get the hate for Tulane. They've made two good coaching hires for football and b-ball and their football stadium is every bit as nice as Ford.

Recall, gentlemen, that we had to come from behind to win this year's football game at Yurman and we lost at Tulane under Coach Brown. We are about 2-3 years ahead in basketball and maybe a year or so ahead in football. We have no real basis to look down our muzzles at the Greenies.

Finally, would you rather have Baylor/Waco as an AAC mate instead? Or maybe Tech/Lubbock?

We are about 5-6 years ahead of Tulane in basketball. Tulane right now would be looking up at Doherty's teams.

2-3 years ahead? They will never, ever reach where we got 2-3 years ago. Our Nic Moore and Nick Russell lead team wouldn't have lost to a middle school team, McNeese St. Plus, they have a stadium that fits about 800 people. They can't possibly succeed.

Tulane doesn't add anything but a fun travel location. Not a big enough market. Their students care less than any student body in the country about sports.

And their stadium is not every bit as nice as Ford. Not even close.

Let's face it...Tulane is as tough a place to win as SMU...small private school in a G5 Conference with little fan base in a city with lots of entertainment options. I really liked Ed Conroy as a coach but he just couldn't get the talent he needed to compete in the AAC. Will be interesting to see whether Dunleavy will be able to put together a competitive group like Fritz appears to be doing with their football program.

Give Dunleavy 3 years to recruit and he could turn things around. I don't think it will take him 5-6 years as many of you believe. Tulane has had a decent bball program through the years (except for that point-shaving, death-penalty thing) and talented local kids form a pretty good recruiting base.

I am familiar with both programs and both universities. There are more similarities than differences, unfortunately.

The current Tulane squad is bad. Very bad. Dunleavy doesn't have much to work with. I don't foresee an NCAA tourney bid in 3 years although it's possible. I can see an NIT bid, however, especially if Dunleavy nabs 3 or 4 good players, which is certainly doable.

I get the similarities - both fine universities with athletics that have struggled, due particularly to conference affiliation. The big difference is we have shown an alumni base that values and supports athletics in a big way, and the biggest difference is we sit in the number 5 media market and they sit in the number 53 media market.

They have no hope for next step. We have very little hope, but at least some hope.
