Scholarship Situation

So by my count we are down to 7 scholarship athletes this season. Does this satisfy our punishment?

For next season we now have Semi (Sr), Gu (Sr), Shake (Jr), Jarrey (Jr), Whitt (Soph), D Mc (Soph), Ray (Fr), Chargois (Fr), Douglas (Fr) and Landrum (Fr).

I think we add a fifth player to this class in the spring. It will be interesting to see what names surface....

I would prefer to go to the juco or grad route and get a 6'10 guy

Idk about 6'10 guy, but that's what we will likely do for a big man. I would like a 6'10 guy, but talented JuCo 6'10 guys don't grow on trees.

Grab another 6'7 or 6'8 guys that gets end to end . Playing Jarrey up vs down makes us better

what difference does it make if the team doesn't go "end to end"? I am so confused by the team's style of play given the composition of the roster. Early 90's UNLV/Flyin' Illini, anyone? This team doesn't even think about pushing the ball on a miss, despite the fact that all 7 rotation players can run and jump

I think you have to have a big if you want to bang with someone in the tourney. This teams weakness is going to be exposed pretty soon, as it was vs Michigan.

In college basketball you could get away with guys that are 6'8 as your bigs if they are athletic and work hard. Even more so if you are rocking guards that are all 6'5+ like SMU seems set to do.

Honestly, I would take a team full of Ben Moore types as the bigs. He is athletic enough to play good off the ball defense and he is a nightmare matchup off pick and rolls for opposing big men. Look at the Standford game. His man could not keep with him on the pick and roll all night. Playing small works in the NBA, it should work even better in college in theory with a closer 3 point line, more zone defense, and very few dominant post players these days.

Ben Moores don't grow on trees. One of the best touches you will see on a guy over 6'7

I just think getting a juco who is big even if not the 6'10 before is better then getting another freshman. I would prefer to add some experience to our bigs rather than having 2 out of 3 bigs be freshman.

I'd want JUCO who can play line to line. It makes little sense, given the current roster, to add a space eating plodder. So I'd take a wiry 6'8" over a bigger slow dude. I'd love a rim protector.
But we definitely need one more big.

Is Ray four more years of Ben? I'd be really happy with that.

That what it sounds like, but with the added upside of he has a better jump shot at this stage. The staff really likes what they have in him.

Hate being shorthanded this spring but glad these [deleted] hit the road ASAP so we can get the scholarships back for some real players.
