Two BB commits per DMNSMU gets two basketball commitments
03:03 AM CST on Friday, January 20, 2006 By CALVIN WATKINS / The Dallas Morning News Alex Malone, a 6-8 junior from Mansfield Timberview, and Jonathan Sloan, a 6-8 junior power forward from Richardson Pearce, made oral commitments to SMU. Malone is averaging 14 points and seven rebounds. He will play small forward in college. Sloan is fifth among Class 5A area players in scoring at 19.3 points a game. Oral commitments are nonbinding. Malone and Sloan can sign letters of intent in mid-November.
I've got to admit I know nothing about these guys, but their size, alone, is somewhat encouraging. As much as I like a lot of our players, we're often smaller (except at center) than many opponents. When we have Roberts playing small forward and Pearson at power forward, we're at a distinct rebounding disadvantage. Personally, I'd like to see Roberts at shooting guard and Pearson at small forward. Maybe these guys will allow that.
this sounds really exciting...we'll have like 9 guys over 6'5" on the team next year, not too shabby Coach Tubbs
that's good, but what remains to be seen is if any of them can replace the scoring we have gotten the last four years from 5'11" Bryan Hopkins. If they can't put the ball through the hoop, we will still lose no matter how tall they are.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
Where are all the recruits the DISD coaches said we would get if JT was hired. They have let him down big time.
Nothing is going to change until the Moody renovations and a new practice facility happen. We probably have the worst basketball facilities of any school in the major/mid-major conferences. There are a lot of Metroplex high schools with better practice facilities and locker rooms than us. Give Coach Tubbs an upgrade in that department, and let’s see what he can do.
TCU is just as bad..
Rice worse .. but agreed.. this needs to be a huge huge point of emphasis. Seems like we've been saying this for a long long time. Basketball is much much easier to turn around than football.. but the facilities have got to be addressed to have a sniff at any decent recruit. What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.
Maybe that practice facility is better than not having one (like SMU), but not much better. It looks like some pre-fab church you'd see out in the sticks, well it is Ft. Worth so I shouldn't be too surprised. But seriously, if/when we do this for our program I hope they do it first rate, TCU's is kind of embarrassing.

Dark and depressing.. not talking about their practice facilities. What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.
Yea, their main bball court sucks but looks like a very nice practice facility. I love the fact the froggies are terrible this year....yea, he has injuries..so what.
It is so frustrating to watch all these new buildings go up that are gigantic yet our athletic programs desperately need financial help.
