Great article on Tubbs in the DMN today. I kinda of agree that SMU ought to revisit the length of his contract. Might help on the recruiting front as with Bennett. Did note the comment that one recruit said he did not like SMU's antiquated gym.
Full article should be on DMN.com.

There isn't a bigger Jimmy Tubbs fan than me and I absolutly believe he is the right man for the job and will succeed at SMU, but he doesn't need a contract extension right now. KB is wearing me out with his equality columns every week.
On the SMU side the Tubbs hire was a no brainer to me because our choices were unproven assistants that you hoped would turn out to be a hot shot that could recruit, or someone you knew could recruit with Dallas roots and high school connections that loves SMU and was well aware of the challenge.
On the Tubbs side, SMU was probably his last chance to get a head coaching job. He wasn't being courted for other Div. I jobs because he stayed as an assistant at SMU too long and lost any chance of being a young hot shot assistant at a winning program.
Bottom line it was perfect fit for both parties, but don't slam SMU because they supposedly shorted him 1 year on the going rate for contracts.

It's not a race issue--the bottom line is if Bennett's record has deserved TWO extensions, they ought to give Tubbs what he should have gotten in the first place

Oh, I agree Tubbs should have received five years. But KB agenda is still the double stroke roll on the race drum. RR LL RR LL RR LL RR LL RR LL RR LL bzzzzzzzzzzz!

He should have spent more than a sentence blasting the DISD coaches who lied to SMU saying if you hire Jimmy we will send recruits to you.

That wouldn't follow the agenda.

OK that's one of the most stupid comments on here in awhile. I have a better suggestion-why don't our coaches get the job done. That is PRIORITY NO. 1 under Tubbs' own description of his job duties. Anything else is just another excuse. It may have some merit but in the long it don't mean squat. He will either get the job done or SMU will try to find someone than can.

I can kind of understand but no, in the long run it is up to coaches (in any sport) to bring in the recruits.........I thought putting in the negative comment by the recruit hurt more than anything else.......not all players feel that way.......

If you compare it to Bennent's extensions with his W-L record then Tubbs should probably get a lifetime extension, but two wrongs don't make a right. If Tubbs turns this thing around like I think he will, he will call the shots and have SMU kissing his butt.
