We Need a New Ambience at MoodyWe need to change the atmosphere at Moody. I understand the better we ge and the more publicity we receive, the more students will want to come to games and the louder the arena will be. However, SMU can propel this by enticing more fans and students to come. Maybe hand out Mustang Maniac t-shirts to students...how about having cool activites they used to have, like flying paper airplanes into a box at midcourt...Also, how about throwing out squishy SMU basketballs like they used to...Come on SMU get creative and more fans will come and because Moody is more rowdy, the basketball team will clearly have a greater home court advantage.
I miss Troy Matthews.
By the way, here is something to pump up SMU fans everywhere...

Re: We Need a New Ambience at Moody
I would go as far as saying we need a NEW Moody!
Re: We Need a New Ambience at Moody
I agree! Was waiting for someone to post that.. We've said for years.. Moody could be great IF.. Well that IF isn't going to happen. We need to bury Moody, waive goodbye to it and build or remodel existing structure that will be something people will want to go to.. and players want to play in. What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.
It's not very exciting at all. Students don't yell and the cheerleaders hardly cheer.
...take me back 10 yrs to the day, nothing is different. Same announcer, same everything. They have added some sound effects this year which happen at the wrong time all game. Scoreboard is such a joke it's not even funny. My church gym has a better scoreboard. Moody is 50 yrs old and just needs to be ravamped - we all know that. Practice courts with offices, wider concourse, new everything.
Maybe it was just me that noticed, but near the end of regulation when we made our run, there was a young man, from allaccess looked like 12-14 years old (could have been older since it is difficult to see anything on the blurred screen), who was right underneath the basket during Rice freethrows. He was jumping up and down, climbing on the basket support, and was even in the blue paint on the end bound line which I would think is a no no for the crowd. It was hilarious and I might add probably contributed to a couple of the missed FTs. If anyone knows who that was I would be interested and would tell him thank you very much. Again, it could have been a student but truly appeared to be a much younger person.
How bout a section of Noggy hide barko loungers raised up on risers - the wildest looking craziest fasn get to go there - picked by whomever - and get free pizza and other free stuff. everyone else gets to laugh at them.
It's Campisi's pizza, not Domino's. "37"
How about some students quit being whiney [deleted] and show up to a damn game. No amount of foam balls or couches are going to convince anyone to show up. You need alot of students, with alot of pre-game beer, and a decent product to cheer for.
And I agree on not tearing down Moody. Or if we do, at least built a new gym with the same feel. I much perfer the crowded feel of Moody to the wide open Tulsa gym where you feel so far from the court.
I'd hate to see Moody replaced. Updated? Absolutely -- those scoreboards are prehistoric, the lighting is weird and .... we all have our own list of areas that could be updated. But that place was nowhere near full last night and it got really loud. It's a great venue -- just needs a facelift.
...did anyone else in the southside seats get tired of that damned strobe light going off almost every :30 seconds last night like I did? It was the light in the northwest corner of the coliseum. Will someone in operations maintenance please fix the damned thing before the next home game! I still have blue dots floating around in front of me today!
![]() ![]() ![]() Update Moody...but don't EVER tear it down! It's historic and part of the campus' overall ambience. And...if it were torn down, you'd have to move the Mustang statues in front that face Airline Drive during the construction period. That sounds like something an Aggie would do. Build it, tear it down, build it again. "37"
