Re: SMU hires global expert as new business school dean
That seems ridiculous that they wouldn't get that $$$ for undergraduates. Is that normal for universities???
It appears Cox is getting screwed.

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Dr. Rick:
We've seen the quality of the student body improve as measured by ACT/SAT and GPA.
Since you teach actual students - have you seen the quality of student increase based on your classroom experience?
I'm curious if the admission metrics translate into engaged, bright students.

yes. I've been here 15 years... students are getting much better. the b-school 'scholars' are comparable to, or better than presidents scholars (full rides for 4 years). I have to give credit to Sewell, as he funded a lot of it. He really cares about SMU and Cox.

Myers, 57, oversaw an $80 million annual operating budget at the Farmer School, which has about 4,300 students and more than 250 faculty and staff members. A spokesperson for SMUΓÇÖs Cox School, which has 2,200 students and about 165 full-time faculty and staff members, says its b-school budget is ΓÇ£controlled centrally, so it is nearly impossible to provide a firm budget number.ΓÇ¥ Both Cox and Farmer have been ranked among the top 10 schools for producing Fortune 500 CEOs.
“There are special opportunities for Cox in executive and continuing education,” Myers said by phone from Ohio Tuesday. “We’ll see how we can expand the school’s executive education footprint … and work with executives and companies in Dallas-Fort Worth to meet their needs.” All business schools are “struggling to modernize their curricula to meet the demands of the marketplace,” he added, “and I think we’ll have to do that over the years, several times, no matter the discipline.”

Re: SMU hires global expert as new business school dean
Nice numbers for graduate students! Look at increase for undergraduates! I think average SAT is around 1400 for our scholars (admitted as freshman) - not quite that high, but close to 1300-1400 range.
Re: SMU hires global expert as new business school dean
Prospective students begin the admission process by applying for admission through the SMU Office of Admissions. After being admitted to SMU, students can be admitted to the Cox School of Business in one of three ways: by invitation prior to enrolling at SMU as a member of the BBA Scholars Program or Business Direct Program or by completing the regular business school admission requirements (normally in the sophomore year). SMU first-year applicants who list a business major as their primary academic interest on their application to SMU are automatically considered for admission as BBA Scholars and Business Direct.

BBA Scholars Program:
BBA Scholars are pre-selected for Cox admission based on their application for admission to SMU and academic performance prior to entering SMU. This program includes the top tier of business students. Fall 2016 BBA Scholars had an average SAT of 1460 (equivalent to a 1500 on new SAT), average ACT of 33 and very competitive grades in the most rigorous curriculum at their high school. Students are notified of their selection for the BBA Scholars Program shortly after receiving acceptance to SMU in their senior year of high school. As BBA Scholars, they participate in the normal SMU/Cox curriculum, but have the added advantages of Cox admission in the first year, Cox scholarships, early access to Cox Advising & Career Services, and special programs and events designed exclusively for Business Scholars.
BBA Scholars Have:
ΓÇó Outstanding academic achievement,
ΓÇó Outstanding SAT/ACT scores,
ΓÇó Strong leadership skills,
ΓÇó Strong letters of recommendation, and
ΓÇó Compelling essays
Approximately 100 students enter SMU as BBA Scholars each year. Scholars come from across the U.S. and from other countries, and represent the strongest business applicants in the incoming class. Most BBA Scholars are members of the University Honors Program, participate in SMUΓÇÖs study abroad programs, and pursue double majors and minors in other academic fields. Contact BBA Admission for more information on the BBA Scholars Program.

Business Direct Program:

Business Direct
Business Direct guarantees admission to the Cox School for a select group of students. Students are selected for Business Direct based on their outstanding high school record. To be considered for Business Direct, students must list a business major as their first academic interest on the SMU application for admission. The Fall 2016 Business Direct invites had an average SAT of 1380 (equivalent to 1430 on new SAT), ACT of 31, strong grades and rigorous high school curriculums. The selection process includes a holistic review and is not based on one factor.
Business Direct students will enter the Cox School of Business after completing the business subset: Discernment & Discourse 1312 & 1313 ( or 2305 & 2306), Micro Economics (ECO 1311), Macro Economics (ECO 1312), Business Calculus (Math 1309 or 1337), Introduction to Financial Accounting (ACCT 2301) and Business Statistics (STAT 2301/2331), and being in good academic standing(2.0 GPA).

Re: SMU hires global expert as new business school dean
Hope he hits the ground running on fund raising. We need about 30 million for MBA scholarships so we can get our GMAT average over 700. MBA creates the reputation for your business school. Our BBA student quality is off the charts better due to the Cox scholar program. We need the equivalent in the MBA school.
THere is no excuse of the 4th largest metropolitan area in the country to not have a top ten business school.
And while we are at it - we need an MBA specific building - and it should be on Bishop at Binkley on that park site.

Direct admission to Cox seems more prestigious than direct admission to McCombs.

UT's new MBA building -- Robert B. Rowling Hall. Of course, Rowling was a major contributor; he attended UT as an undergraduate business student, and graduated from SMU's law school.
