And you thought game attendance was low last year...Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower And you thought game attendance was low last year...Hey guys, been a long-time reader of Ponyfans but never posted. I am a junior at SMU, go to all the games, as do all my friends. I wanted to make y’all aware of the absurd new Boulevard rules the administration is trying to put in place. They recently told the fraternities, without consulting the athletic department or any student organizations, the following rules for next year:
1. The area from the flagpole to Dallas hall will be fenced in with only one entrance 2. Fraternities cannot supply their own beer 3. Beer will be sold individually at stadium prices by Aramark ($10 a beer) 4. You can’t leave or come in to the fenced in area with any alcohol With these rules, even less students will go to the games, and the fraternities are considering boycotting the Boulevard completely. The school put together these rules in secret without consulting IFC, the athletic department, or Chad Morris.
Re: And you thought game attendance was low last year...It's great to here that the fraternity presidents are going to boycott the Boulevard and not buy their tents for the upcoming season as a way to send a message about this new policy. The athletic department can thank Dr Vogel for this!
Peruna is my mascot!
Re: And you thought game attendance was low last year...Yep, 100% on student affairs.
Re: And you thought game attendance was low last year...Just legislate the fun out of (what started out as) a unique, friendly, entertaining event that united all Mustang fans - young and old. If this is true, it will be another nail in the coffin of any hope for sustainable school spirit. W(ho) TF comes up with this crap? I'd take my pre-game "festivities" elsewhere, too. I can only imagine what these buffoons will come up with to destroy The Mob.

Re: And you thought game attendance was low last year...Awful. The school needs to stop trying to change the Boulevard.
Pregame at the houses and get to Ford. Don't let Student Affairs win.
Re: And you thought game attendance was low last year...This needs to be stopped. Absolutely ridiculous when the SMU PD didn't even have a say or any issues with how it was being run already.
Re: And you thought game attendance was low last year...
As bad as it is getting to the stadium in the past you know that there will be no participation at the game if they pregame at the houses. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: And you thought game attendance was low last year...Have there been many (any?) incidents involving alcohol on the Blvd in recent years? Or is this just a money grab for Aramark and the school?
Re: And you thought game attendance was low last year...
Less money for the school actually when the fraternities don't pay the thousands of dollars for their BLVD spots and $10 beers won't sell great in the fenced off area. Peruna is my mascot!
Re: And you thought game attendance was low last year...
Good point. So, I guess this just boils down to the school fixing something that ain't broke. Good job, SMU.
Re: And you thought game attendance was low last year...a bunch of snowflakes are running the show.
Not only should the students boycott, but adults should too until this is overturned. The BLVD is one of the best tailgate spots in the country. The fact that someone would want to change that is beyond me
Re: And you thought game attendance was low last year...
AGREE. The best way to stop this lunacy is to hitt'em where it hurts..... no, I meant the wallet.
Re: And you thought game attendance was low last year...The boulevard received national recognition for one of the best pregame festivities, and now they want to put a real hamper on this open enjoyment. I just can not fathom the reasoning on this decision. Hopefully this can be overturned before season opener
Re: And you thought game attendance was low last year...Need to hire someone from LSU (or Ole Miss) to do this up. I'm not saying turn it into a rowdy, trashy affair but there's a way to keep the spirit of the Vard intact but add some more excitement to it. Sounds like we are going the opposite (wrong) direction. Need some new young blood in these positions (see bball and fball staff). Ugh.
