In order to have a shot, you would have to play a schedule like Houston who played OU and Louisville. If they hadn't played 5 games in the first 25 games and then two of their starting LB's got into a fight with each other with one breaking his jaw and missing the navy game, I think they would have definitely made the playoff. I think if they were undefeated playing us and still playing for that playoff spot things would have been different.

In order to make it from the AAC you need to beat two non-conferance major teams, maybe only lose once to a top AAC team like Navy or USF who could be ranked in that year, and then you need to win the coference + some help from other confereances beating each other up like the big 12 always does.

It's also a two year process. Look at UH last year. They had a [still only an outside] shot at the CFP after going to a new years six bowl and beating Florida St the year before.

Does anyone really believe that the powers that be would ever allow any G5 team, regardless of schedule or record, play in the championship playoff?

Back in the Dickerson days we almost went unbeaten, if not for the hogs tying us in that last game before the Cotton Bowl, hmmm hog tied...anyway, that was a totally different team and circumstance. Incredibly, we still didn't win the national championship. Pretty sure it was Penn St. with one loss. Yet another thorn in my SMU [deleted].

Yep...although it would probably be more accurate to say WE tied Arkansas....and then a miracle tackle against Dickerson and a missed field goal kept us from undefeated. GREAT game, that Arky fans still fuss about a PI penalty called against them to sustain an SMU drive.

If every OOC team that we play goes 11-1, every conference opponent goes undefeated in OOC and we go 12-0, do we get into the playoff?

The playoff is designed so that only top P5 teams ever make it:
Oklahoma
Texas
Alabama
Texas A&M
LSU
Auburn
USC
Oregon
Washington
UCLA
Michigan
Ohio State
Penn State
Clemson
Florida State
Notre Dame

Everyone else in the P5 needs to go undefeated to qualify.
The G5 have virtually no shot.

no because beating TCU doesn't get you in. Too weak a non-conference schedule
