Turner wanted the tailgating to be on the intramural field. Fact. Also, this is drastically different from the regulations that have been introduced previously. This is controlling who can and cannot enter a large portion of the boulevard and not allowing the 'free' consumption of beverages. If they didn't allow alum to byob and instead had $10 beer stands, things would be very different and a lot less fun.

http://www.fox4news.com/news/251388261-storyWhen asked to comment, SMU officials told FOX4: “SMU is moving toward alcohol sales in the Boulevard section used by all student organizations. We have been meeting with students to discuss this issue and their concerns, and will continue to do so.”

Right smusic 00. Call it 30 minute tailgating. Maybe.

So what's to stop the fraternities from walking 30 feet south and grabbing a beer from their recent graduate buddies? If there is no right to renter then it will just be empty by the quad. Dumb idea.

While they are at it-might as well require them to purchase a game ticket before they are allowed to enter the Boulevard gated Prison-then count them for Attendance. Charge double for any one bringing a dog on a leash for insurance purposes-because we know those [deleted] aren't going to the game

Win, and win consistently, and none of this will matter.

Agree! What's the friggin deal, with taking your dog to the Vard...so he can lay a steaming pile next to someone grilling?

Always a loophole. Fraternity members will all be invited to Alumni tents on the south end. Leave it to SMU to try to ruin one of the only traditions that has stuck in the last decade.

Sadly, if this policy is instituted, there will be "work arounds" of the new system by folks...and then MORE regulations to deal with the "work arounds"...Suddenly, we will be in California!

The amount of cluelessness on here about the Blvd is pretty scary. We are not like Oxford Miss or even 90% of the other places that tailgate - which for almost anyone else is the only thing creating any economic activity for hundreds of miles in any direction. SMU throws a giant party right in the middle of the nicest neighborhood in the fourth largest metro in the county six to seven times a year, and we have had remarkably little serious push back on that. Its not all that surprising that the TABC and city of UP police might have a tweak from time to time.
Not saying we couldn't be defending it with more gusto at the SMU admin level, but acting like this is solely SMU driven or in any way "typical" SMU is just stupid. The opposite is probably true.

I agree with someone earlier...that stated this new rule is all about liability. If one frat-rat ever gets wasted staggering drunk on the BullyVard, drives away and kills someone...who they gonna sue? They are gonna sue where the money is! All these new rules are just one more tool of "C.Y.A." an SMU defense attorney can use to try and better deflect responsibility back on the reckless half-wit that drank way too much and drove, instead of calling UBER.
