I’ll try to keep a running update of Sloan in this thread.

Sat 1/21 – 16 pts (leading scorer) in a 66-61 win over Jesuit
next game – Tues at Richardson

season average – 19.3 pts (leads district 10-5A, 5th in area 5A), 9.2 rebounds (second in district 10-5A, 8th in area 5A)
Richardson Pearce – 15-8 (4-3)

I plan to go to tomorrow’s game.....I’ll report what I see.

BTW for those that want to follow his progress-Richardson Pearce has a website that does a pretty good job of tracking their season-with pictures, schedules and leading stats. Forgot the name but you could find by Googling it. Try www.jjpearcebasketball.com For scoring leaders go to "Varsity" and then "News"

42 blocks in 19 games - 2.2 AVG

Between Bamba and him swatting balls, we should have a solid interior defense.

I'm going to see him play this weekend.

1/24 - 12 pts in a 55-52 loss to Richardson

1/27 - 12 pts in a triple overtime loss to #4 state-ranked Berkner

DMN story:
Richardson Berkner, No. 4 in the state Class 5A poll, outlasted Richardson Pearce, 81-79, Friday in three wild and emotional overtimes.

Berkner guard Justin Johnson dumped the ball into center Ugo Chinasa for the winning bucket as time expired in the third overtime.

Berkner (22-6, 9-0 District 10-5A) forced the first extra period when Johnson banked in an off-balance, fading 3-pointer from the left wing with 10 seconds left.

Pearce forced the second overtime when Josh Odom, who finished with 26 points, banked in a 3-pointer, also a fading shot from the wing.

Ben Brown (14 points) led six Berkner players in double figures.

noticed that Sloan had 24 points in a 53-52 loss to highly ranked Newman Smith last night. Thats alot of points in a low scoring game. Pearce's district is very tough this year.

An opinion based on limited evidence

Postby The Falcon » Wed Feb 01, 2006 5:09 pm

My son & I went to the Pierce/Berkner game on 1/27 (last Fri)

What we saw -

1) A big guy - 6'8"
2) He did get 12 points before fouling out.
3) He looked like he had the flu - if anyone has any info on an illness I would be interested to hear it.
4) Slow & awkward & a lack of force or strength
5) Shot blocks were against smallish guards trying to drive the lane.
6) Limited moves with no quickness around the basket.
7) A lack of awareness of players behind him in the zone.
8) Morris looks quick by comparison
9) Chris Reay as a high schooler would have totally outplayed this guy.

As I said - this was just one game. I don't know why he looked as slow
and as weak as he did. He was either sick or he is that kind of player.
Let's hope for the flu.

I have heard that people that watch Pearce are not sure what we see in him.
