yes this is very much a glass is half full post, but hey I am goin to stay positive for years...
yes we are 2-3 in conf play and basically have a the same record that dement posted (at the midway point) but lets look at the brightside.. that last game against utep, they came to moody and blew us out of the water.. we only lost by 13 but i was there and it was a lot uglier than that..
Now last night we went there in front of 11,000 fans and should have won the game.. Seems to me that is progress.
Again lets look at the important facts, we need to keep improving and peak at conf usa tourney time
I say keep improving and getting better, that way when the tournament rolls around we are playing our best ball and we sneak up and beat teams and get far in the tourney.
UAB adn memphis will be 1 and 2, so lets hope we can slide in as a middle seed adn that way we won't have to play them until the quarterfinals, in stead of round one or two

A win would have been huge but we needed to make strides in this game and apparently did. If we continue to build and improve to the end of the season, which we seem to be doing, then we will have a good seed and be ready to do our thing in the tourney.
Go Ponies!! Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad

And two of those losses in conference are UTEP, who is not going to lose very many games against CUSA teams this yr - maybe one would be my guess.
I do not think you could look at our schedule and predict more wins except for the early snafus. Since Bamba has been in there we have not lost to a team worse then us - which is a start.
VERY concerend about pt guard next yr. A great point guard could come in here and have a nice group around him for four yrs. Bhop has to be hating his timing.

Looking at the rest of the way ....Mustangs are probably 7-7 for the conference with a 15-12 record.
Memphis won't lose to anyone....UAB/Memphis final.
Gostangs - Dez is still going to be here however with our leading scorer and best player gone, there is a lot of slack to pick up and i haven't seen anyone who can do that consistently....

If we had Bamba and Bhop as freshmen this year, then we could be hopeful, but with Bhop gone, and no one else a legitimate consistent scoring threat, I really am afraid we are just going to be wasting Bamba's time.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

Our three losses are to UTEP and Memphis. We won games on the road at Rice and ECU. Most importantly, we are playing very good defense and rebounding well. That wins games in the long run, ask Princeton. So, we are improving. We should have more home games than away games remaining on our conference schedule, so I suspect we'll be more like 8-6 absent a Dement like collapse.

My questionable games are Marshall at home and Rice away. Those are toss ups in my opinion.

Houston on the road, Rice on the road and UAB at home should be tough contests for us. Marshall is improved, but at home we should win that game. For some reason I thought the earlier Rice game was on the road.

TP, I too think we have a pretty good team. It is a group that is sometimes capable of playing pretty well. I really want us to be at our best come CUSA tourney time.
With that said I am tired of people giving SMU sports a free pass too often. "Well we lost on the road, but at least it was close" type comments do not cut it for me. We are a division 1college hoops program that has been stuck in mediocrity for far too long and I feel that moral victories can only go so far. At some point SMU as a university needs to expect to win, not expect progress in the form of moral victories. I always want the best for our team, but at some point only actual production can be celebrated. Not the hopes of what might be to come.
East Stang, the Rice game was at Moody and was a pretty thrilling OT victory. One of my favorite games as a SMU hoops fan to be in the stands for.
