I think you need to edit your post to subtle "ignorance" rather than "humor".

By the way, Arkansas plays the Billy Tell Overture as a rally song. Should we condemn them for this outrageous plagerism? Everyone keep reminding DFFH what the UT in UTEP stands for.

As for UTEP, I believe there is some history behind them playing "Texas Fights" as well as "March Grandioso" which is also played by UT and Tech.
The reason that HP plays "Peruna" is because the great Jack Rohr's sons (John and Rick) were members of the band and he gave permission to the HP band director for it to be played. God knows I played it A LOT on my trombone from 1971-1974!

HP didn't play Peruna in the 1980s and doesn't play it today. They actually went through a *very* unfortunate period of playing "Texas Fight" a few years ago, but that has ended as well. They don't play any fight songs now other than "Hail to the Fighting Scotties," which thankfully is one of the few high school fight songs that isn't just borrowed from the college ranks.

I'm not sure about it.....but I think the state Legislature has a law that says every UT school has to adopt the "Texas Fight" song. Not only this applies to UT-El Paso and UT-Austin but to the Arlington, Dallas, San Antonio, Tyler and Brownsville campuses.

Of course....of the 9 UT schools, only the Austin and El Paso campuses play Div 1-A football. The others don't even have football programs.

Like I said....I'm not sure if that law exists. But that's what I was told when I attended UTEP.

BTW, there's some Houston and Texas Tech fans who say the reason they don't like UTEP is because the Miners are part of the "evil UT empire". LOL

Not true. I remember going to games in the 90s when they had a brief series with Hillcrest and hearing their 5 piece band back then(those were dark days for their band) and hearing them play it. They even played it at homecoming parade this past year, so it's obviously somewhere in their library even though they may not play it all the time.

You mean at SMU's homecoming parade? Well, that would make sense in a gracious-visitor sort of way. And it's not like Peruna is exactly Beethoven's Fifth in terms of difficulty. They didn't play it once at the Ennis, Stephenville, or Marshall games.

They definitely went through a period of playing college songs in the 90's, as I mentioned with (ugh) "Texas Fight," and please note that their having played Peruna in the 90's doesn't mean that it's "not true" that they stuck to HPHS songs in the late 80's and today.

There you go. Very few things that he says are to be taken at face value. The man just operates on a different wavelength than the rest of us.
