I couldn't disagree more. Too much history, the school are very similar, 30 miles apart, we compete for the same students, and the schools both dislike the other. Current TCU students may view Baylor as much more of a rival because that's all they know but most affiliated with TCU still view SMU as its equal on all levels. BTW, did SMU feel TCU wasn't worthy of being a rival any longer in the 70s-80s when we beat them around 15 years in a row in football??

LA, you are correct. Current/last 10 years+ frog students view SMU as 'meh.' The tradition goes WAY beyond that with the SWC, obviously, and surpasses any (extremely one-sided) non-conference ntsu history.

Yes and we used to think about tcu how they think about us. Tcu was usually a sure win while I was there and even then I didn't start taking them seriously until the rose bowl. It's time to start being competitive with them again.

You were there in 1936! Wow, you have seen al the great SMU moments in football. Who was the best, in your opinion, at QB? RB?

We feel about ntsu how TCU feels about us.
This exactly.
Not true. TCU sees SMU as a rivalry but one that they have the upper hand so it becomes their 2nd or 3rd rivalry after Baylor and Texas Tech. NTSU is becoming a rivalry. We should keep playing them. SMU Rivals: 1) TCU 2) Houston (may become our big game) 3) NTSU 4) Tulsa (rising) 5) UConn (basketball) 6) Cincinnati (mosty basketball)

It's easier to fill Ford playing ntsu than other low major fbs opponents. Not necessarily a rivalry but a game we should keep playing moving forward

I'll bet you anything that if they win today we will be circling NTSU next year. It is starting to become something.

I think the difference is association amongst the fans. Most of us know tons of TCU people. They all know their football is superior, but the ones with brains admit our basketball is better - and oh yeah - the part about actually being a university - we are way better there also. Lots of boosterism both ways and lots of overlap with people. They are generally pretty fun. I hate their school with the heat of 1000 suns, but weirdly like almost every individual I know who went there.
I honestly don't know a single UNT alum.

I'm not surprised this opinion comes from the most annoying poster in PF's history. I've always questioned if you're really affiliated with SMU or just a troll. The more you post the more it becomes apparent. Anyone who suggests Rice is not a rival of SMU is clueless about our school and our history. We will always be a rival on some level with every former SWC school.

I don't think there is any question but that we are UNT's biggest rival because of our proximity to Denton and I believe they have played us more often than TCU. I think SMU's firing of Hayden Fry and the success Hayden had at NTSU before going to Iowa had a lot to do with building the rivalry for North Texas. SMU people can look down their noses at UNT all they want, but it's a nice local game for us to play and always pretty well attended. I like the fact that we have dominated them and while we may not consider them a big rival, they are still a local opponent so it certainly remains a game of interest in the Metroplex. I have no problem with continuing the series with those guys.

The attendance last night certainly wasn't rivalry-worthy.
