Not blaming Chad. Blaming any coach who couldn't put one player on the field who had a clue what to do. That was an embarassassment. I would teach a group of middle schoolers better. Huge turning point in the game. Unfortunately this is to be expected for only the this group of fans and this is why illl never complain about battered pony syndrome

You are right La_Mustang; Sutton was a db. I doubt he's practiced at db in three years. This is college not high school. I think a good college coach would have played the players he has recruited, trained and relied on to play db.

This is such a specific axe to grind, it's baffling.

I'll blame Chad for making a bad DC hire in Van Malone. I wont blame him for that play though

The cowboys put Dez Bryant in on hailmarys. He should have been in because he is 6'3" and can jump along with Alex Honey.

Every defender was flat footed. Every single one. No one coached them to do that. That's not coaching. That's just [deleted] poor performance.

EXACTLY! Love it sadderbudweiser...JUMP! In my opinion the question shouldn't be why didn't the coaches put in Sutton. The question should be why can't our SCHOLARSHIP PLAYERS JUMP? What was the problem batting down a ball thrown into the end zone with 6 defensive players standing around watching it happen? I feel confident had the coaches known the defensive recruited and trained players were just going to stand and watch instead of trying (with all they had) to stop the catch, they would have made other choices (like Sutton). I assume they thought the 6 defensive players knew when a ball is thrown in the area (not just the first ten yards :D but any area they were in) their job was to try to intercept, or at least knock it down. I can assure you, after tonight, my third grade grandson knows dbs should 'jump' and knock down passes from the other team.

Jumping won't help. No one was even in position to do anything

Courtland should have been on the field for that play. Just like Megatron should have been on the field for the Packers' crazy Hail Mary. To say that he's not a DB so he shouldn't be out there doesn't make sense. He's not covering a slot receiver, he's standing at the goal line and knocking a ball down. The guy that caught the ball on that play wasn't a DB either.

I'm not saying the outcome of the game would have been any different without that TD. I'm just talking about the one play. Time to move on and focus on Arkansas St.

Trying not to beat a dead horse...

Postby Maryland78 » Sun Sep 17, 2017 8:46 am

The Hail Mary was bad enough, but did anybody count all of the poor passes?...had to be about 15, many in crucial times...I could see Sutton's frustration on the field. Why didn't we bring in one of our other QB's? Personally, I like to have the back-up run a couple of series every game...he is only one play from being thrown into the fray anyway.

Covered elsewhere and more in depth on the pay site, not having Gillins available due to injury could really have hurt us quite a bit. TCU's DB's are really good and Hicks, who needs all the help he can get at times, was our only real option. Having a running QB put the froggies on their heels two years ago... and might have helped at times yesterday.

This loss ties the longest an SMU fan has had to wait before an iron skillet win or tie. Unfortunately the otger wait we are tying also happened in the last 22 years. It's been dark.

Coaching gets 7 players around the receiver.

The players are the ones who have to jump for the ball and defend.

That is a player issue, not a coaching issue.
