So here's a question: Let's say HCCM DOES put Sutton in. How in the flying f@@k does he get through the other six guys and get anywhere near the receiver? The had him surrounded.

Very simple. Sutton starts the play standing in the endzone. You know the QB is throwing the ball up for grabs. Sutton plays the pass like it's a punt. He is the tallest, best, most athletic ball hawk in the game. Just have him swat the ball down. This is done at every level of football. As someone mentioned, the Cowboys do it with Dez in those situations.

mtrout you may be right...
by the time the ball was arriving
most of our DB's were too far "out of the circle" surrounding the reciever
or slightly out of position/bad angle
that had they jumped it would have not done any good.

It is Hill's fault for not throwing it far enough.

Looks like our DBs are ex baseball outfielders. Reiger yelled MINE, and they let him have it.

None of our defenders seem to know where the ball is to make a move to get there first :!:
Best shot is for the 2 guys behind the receiver to make a hit just as the ball arrives. Chancing a
a pass interference call is better than a sure 6 :!:
May the forth be with us.

So glad I missed the play live (went to the bathroom when we went up 22-21 and after the kickoff) and don't want to watch in reruns. I would definitely put this on coaching and of course, ultimately, on the players. I don't think I would have put Courtland in and risk injury to be honest.

I would say you put the Hail Mary play on the coaches just like you blame OSU for Dexter Manley not being able to read in college. Both should have learned how to handle that long before arriving at the University level. Plus Morris said they do practice it with and without Sutton. Got to put this in the players, not the coaches.

Did you see Morris' statement this morning on the play? He admitted that they practice the situation and Courtland is normally back there. He said he should've been in the game and it is on him that he wasn't.

As for risking injury, seriously? On a play that huge in our most high profile game of the year, we shouldn't play our best guy for the situation because he might get injured?? Let's save him for the UConn game!

I am not arguing whether or not Sutton should have been in. Probably should have been. But do you think he is the only one that would have known to jump? None of our players fronted the receiver and none of our players left their feet.

There is no defending the other guys not jumping but the coach's job is to put the players in the best position to succeed. That said, I don't know how anyone can defend not having Sutton in the game in that situation. It's kind of like a basketball coach who has a 90% free throw shooter and he knows the other team is about to foul to send them to the line but he doesn't put the great FT shooter in the game.
