Diamonds in the Rough

Bennett is comparing himself to Belichek and saying he found all the diamonds in the rough:

Bobby Chase
Rogers
Poynter
Sturdivant

Sturdivant wasn't a Diamond in the Rough. He was just not quite highly regarded enough to get offers from big SEC schools like Florida St and Georgia.

Not exactly. He said he admires Belicheck for all the hard work he puts in finding guys that nobody else knows about.

Not saying that Sturdivant was, just found it interesting that Bennett seemed to claim he was

that's not what he said..

He said he'd like to try and develop talent in the same way Belichek does.. and mentioned how much he respects him.

Some of those guys were not that well-known and he has brought some of them along. I'm sure rivals had them as crippled, toothless and 4ft.. eh Stallion?
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.

well seriously Rivals had never heard of a very high percentage of our recruits until they committed to SMU. Now we get to see if Bennett is as good a talent evaluator as some of you think. This is probably the lowest profile recruiting class in a very long time.

He also said Haywood would've been at Angelo State.

I must say, with Harper, Haywood & Rogers, they've been developed well.

I would have to agree with PB that we wouldn't want to be without these guys.

Angelo State did win the Lone Star conference this year, after the departure of Jerry Vandergriff, who had been the coach for about 30 years.

I thought all the Phil Bennett name-droppers said that Texas Tech and Baylor offered Haywood too
