Re: Give Hicks credit for...We all (well, most is us) want us to win as many games as possible. I know very little about football, as Mrydel will attest to, but it seems to me, a QB who cannot run and is completing barely 50 percent of his passes, is making things more difficult.
Long live Inez Perez!
Re: Give Hicks credit for...And I would love to see Gillens or Peavy to see what they can do. I just think that first Morris is loyal and at this time feels comfortable with Hicks. Secondly, as you and I discussed, it seems Hicks is a very emotional player and if pulled he may not react well and may not be returnable if it turns out he is our best option. Not being there and around the players all the time it is tough to tell. But if history holds up, Hicks will get banged up sometime and his replacement will have a chance to prove himself.
Most importantly the QB needs the respect of his team and Hicks seems to have this at this time from what I can tell. I think the season will evolve in an interesting way. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Give Hicks credit for...
Offenses exist to score shitloads of points. In four games, Smu has already scored more points than it did in all of 2014 and almost 2/3 as much as it did in 2016. Yes he throws a few baffling throws. But, I can lead to a low completion percentage if it means he isn’t turning it over - he is not. He also appears to have been instructed to throw it away “when in doubt.” Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Give Hicks credit for...Hicks: that's a tuff moniker
Re: Give Hicks credit for...Yeah! We’re absolutely torching the bottom-50 pass defenses (66, 79, 106, FCS-104 equivalent)! He doesn’t only complete 50% of his passes, the other 50% were intentional throw away passes!

Re: Give Hicks credit for...Stupid
Re: Give Hicks credit for...Hicks ran for a touchdown this past week....surprised Arky Lite, and most of Ponyfans, too.
He has performed better than last year, and that is part of the needed improvement of this team. I agree with the above posts that the success of Hicks is tied directly to the success of the rushing game. See the TCU game for verification. Long-term, it will be essential to get a multi-faceted QB in the style of a Watson or a Lamar Jackson...but those seem to be few and far between, and everyone else wants them too. Until that time, let's dance with the one we brung. stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse

Re: Give Hicks credit for...Hicks is better than last year. I actually do trust him to generally make good decisions this year.
Our offense needs a QB that is a legitimate rush threat (and not just when you stick a big body in front of him). Hicks is not that rushing threat. 50% completion percentage is not an acceptable percentage for a QB. Scoring a lot of points against mediocre defenses does not prove that a QB is solid. All of these can simultaneously be true.
Re: Give Hicks credit for...So is the conclusion that Hicks is our best option at this point
