Re: Ford Stadium TurfPX, U nailed me. One small correction, I was not a Fr. in '78 (officially a Soph) but I was a teammate of Jim Duggan (should narrow down the Fresh Year).
How are things with U. If I am correct, U have a family wedding coming up. If I am incorrect, please forgive me.
Re: Ford Stadium TurfCorrect on all counts. Its good to see you posting on the board. I've been posting here and on the Mustang Maniacs forum for about 3 years now, its often a goood place to chat about Mustang sports.
The wedding is April 12th, so I'm going to miss the Spring Game. Its kind of funny, the only time I've missed a home football game was for my older sisters wedding. Otherwise I always try to make it to all our sports. Good to see you here, hope the family is well, and I'm sure I'll be chatting with you more.
Re: Ford Stadium TurfI understand about missing sporting events because of a sister. I hope U have a great time.
tell your family "howdy" and I hope to see U around the stadium (regardless of the type turf) this fall.
Re: Ford Stadium TurfIsn't it Field Turf that they installed in Independence Stadium in Shreveport? Our players have played on it if it is. It looked good from the stands, but that is not the deciding criteria.

Re: Ford Stadium TurfYes the turf in S'port in the new field turf. SMU played on it 2 seasons ago when SMU played LaTech.
Re: Ford Stadium TurfI dont know that its 100% certain we'll be getting this turf. As someone said earlier, they need to raise the money for it, and that money would have to come in pretty quick if they are going to get started right after the Spring game.
Re: Ford Stadium Turfyes it is mustang 35. they kept the long blades of turf. i have seen this same turf with those blades cut shorter. so the height can be adjusted ....once.
Re: Ford Stadium TurfQuestion: what brand of natural turf is currently on Ford Field?
Re: Ford Stadium TurfHey nobody has mentioned it but I don't think Field Turf is 100% artificial turf-as one of the previous posts pointed out I think it allows real grass to grow through the artificial surface and as he said it can be cut to vary the length-isn't that correct. Therefore, it can provide the best of both surfaces- a consistent turf and a softer turf.

Re: Ford Stadium Turfthe stuff we are talking about putting down is the fake stuff. it is exactly what is in texas stadium i believe. great to play on. players can use any kind of shoe on it they feel comfortable with.
Re: Ford Stadium TurfBack in 2000, I thought it was great that we were going to have natural turf. If tu and atm can grow real grass, why can't we? Their fields look great late in the year.
Re: Ford Stadium Turfit wont hold up if we allow high school teams to use ford for playoff games. and i think that is the best idea of all...bring those kids on campus to a first class place to play. the turf is a great move.
Re: Ford Stadium TurfThe grass that was originally put in FS is Bermuda Tiffway 419. The reall grass grew through some sort of artificial turf net or mesh. I don't know what the grass they installed for the College Cup. The CC is not a factor in deciding to get turf. It jsut didn't make "cents" for us to host it. The SMU Athl. Dept. is understaffed as is, then to add the CC made a bad situation worse. To give you an example of what has to be done, UT hired 3 full-time people to run and promote the CC. SMU couldn't do it. We didn't make enough money to warrant spending so many man hours and money on it.
Viva Ponyball!!!!!
Re: Ford Stadium TurfI thought I had heard that the grass used was a combination of natural and artificial turf. I was surprised when it did not seem to hold up.
I guess it was not state of the art after all.
