Of course that's got to be the approach. It might make for a cute story to say that the Mustangs field a team full of players who all live in University Park, or the Park Cities, or in Dallas, or in DFW (just imagine that University Park starts with a D), but it's meaningless. Sure, might put a few more people in the seats. But if Coach Tubbs was to sign a roster full of guys from Oregon, like Morris, and the Ponies roll through Conference USA with a 30-1 record, Moody will be packed and the team will be treated like rock stars. Hometown is meaningless -- talent is vital.
I'm glad he is getting talent from other places because the DISD coaches who went to Copeland en mass and begged him to hire Tubbs saying they would remember us for helping one of their own are sure looking foolish right now. Let's all be sure and tell the new AD what was said by those DISD coaches and how they need to be reminded to do a better job of helping their friend.
How about we collectively put an ad in the DMN saying "hey coaches, we as fans would like to know where the DISD coaches went who pledged to stand by their man..... where did you go???" Of course it's partly SMU's fault too....
I don’t know why you guys keep blaming the DISD coaches for us not get any Dallas kids so far? While the coaches do have an influence on their kids, ultimately it is the decision of the kid and his family. I realize that getting close doesn’t count for anything, but we have been on the short list of several highly recruited Dallas kids. (Beal, Sloan, Odufuwa) He will eventually hit on one or two......give him some time. He has only been here a year and a half. Plus, like Dement before him, Tubbs is seriously hampered by our facilities. Other than hiring Tubbs, SMU has done nothing to make itself an attractive school to play basketball for area kids. To use a poker analogy, recruiting these blue-chippers is like Tubbs being at the final table with the short stack and he keeps getting dealt a 2-7. He's got to get some help.
BTW, if Indiana continues their slide and Davis gets the boot, we have a serious shot at Shady.
well let's all pray that Indiana continues to suck and fires Davis...
by the way, they beat Northwestern last night, and are still ranked in the top 25 at 21....lets hope they get absolutely destroyed on Saturday against UCONN The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
It doesn't matter if Davis gets fired or not - Shady has Kansas as a fall back. So let's see.............Kansas or SMU???? Nationally ranked program or program that can't break .500, Big 12 versus Conf USA, tv exposure or crappy internet connection, playing before 12,000 rabid fans or empty seats, Hmmmmm.....
Personally, I think he is still hoping one of the Tar Heel commits drops out due to grades or whatever so he can go there.
whats your theory on why he continues to list SMU at all?
you talking about a tv interview? The same one referred to here last week where he supposedly mentioned SMU first when asked? Strange situation. Rumor has it that there is more left to his decision than waiting to see if Davis gets fired. Maybe he just likes all the attention he keeps getting. In that case its even harder to imagine him going to SMU or even Baylor. Unless he has the ego/need to be the clearcut star on the floor at all times. He wont be that at UNC or Kansas. Maybe moreso at IU these days.
Comfortable being part of a team, boy that sure sounds nice. We haven't had one of those kind of players to lead us in a few years. My reason for mentioning the DISD coaches is that we don't want them to forget. Yes, we are making some player's short lists, but not landing the big fish. I want more, I want us to land a few big fish and I want it sooner rather than later.
