SMU v Tulsa game threadModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: SMU v Tulsa game threadHicks has been 100% better this year, cant complain much at all, most of the hate is leftover from lsat year
Re: SMU v Tulsa game threadMan, it was cold.
They have changed the play calling to play to Hicks' strengths. You don't see the 8-15 yard out anymore that he was throwing into the second row. Short screens to the side or down the seams for the most part. That is why his completion percentage has gone way up and we don't see the missed opportunities. He also gets his feet set better which helps his accuracy. Earlier in the game he missed a couple of throws on the move because he didn't set himself properly and overthrew players, like the ones where he moved up in the pocket. That happened a lot early this season, they have definitely worked on some mechanics and his lower body. Not a great performance overall, but the team showed fantastic fight to hold it close and then come from behind. Well deserved win and a well deserved bowl.
Re: SMU v Tulsa game thread
Memphis had it called against them when we played them in Memphis a couple of years ago. Kind of a rarity. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand

The high step was so subtle...maybe one step and he stopped, like he knew he shouldn't do it. I was shocked they called it. Most officials wouldn't have called it IMO. I thought the refs stunk.
Re: SMU v Tulsa game threadTotally agree. I was very pleasantly stunned.

Agree. I think it was a case of an official itching to make a call under the new rule...and I suspect the pre-game trash talking could have affected his thinking about sending a message
Re: SMU v Tulsa game threadhe was just trying to impress ED one of the great high steppers in history

Re: SMU v Tulsa game threadThank you refs! What a joke... but i will take the W!
AAC refs are pretty damn clueless most of the time.
Re: SMU v Tulsa game thread589 yards for SMU on only 19 First Downs-that's pretty difficult to do. We were inconsistent last nite on Offense. Poor on First and Second Down which is rare for SMU. A lot of breakdowns and penalties-offensive line was spotty that kept us from consistently moving the ball. Time of Possession was awful-Tulsa 34:26 to SMU 25:34. Yet still had 589 yards in 25:34- probably could have been 750+ yards if we'd played up to our Standard as Morris says

Re: SMU v Tulsa game threadIf they were good refs they wouldn't have called the high step but also none of the bullsht pass interference against our defense which would have negated other scoring drives.

Re: SMU v Tulsa game threadI haven't seen the replay but DBs are going to get that call against them 99% of the time when they are desperately chasing a WR and jump into a WR without looking for the ball. I thought both flags were coming on both of those plays. They waived off another. You got a better chance on those calls when the DB is in good coverage running stride for stride. SMU's DBs were chasing-its going to get called

Re: SMU v Tulsa game threadOne penalty was when another DB, not the one running with the WR, helped and came in from the side with eyes on ball enough to hit the player at the same time and break it up. It was garbage. The refs were consistently ticky tack all night so at least we got one TD called back out of it. If good refs, neither happen.

Re: SMU v Tulsa game threadyeah there was one bad interference call where the ball was tipped by the receiver before the SMU guy touched him-I was talking about 2 different ones were the DBs were beat by the WR but caught up jumping into the body of the WR
