Aggies believe they can get Franklin...or Fisher...or the ever popular Chad Kelly. Morris will be the tier 2 choice after reality hits College Station. I personally think Tennessee or Ole Miss might make a run at him this year...
The TAMU brass don't want to take a chance on another up and comer. They want an established P5 coach. Les Miles is sitting in the 1 seed position.

this thread is depressing af. really starting second guess myself on continuing to support this program. need to retain chad morris by any means necessary. this merry-go-round of hiring coaches every few years is not a sustainable strategy.

Any means necessary involves getting invited to a P5 conference sometime in the next month along with many other virtually impossible initiatives. Whether we succeed or fail, we'll have to hire coaches every few years just like any other G5 program (and many P5 programs too).

Big difference in firing a coach and having to start over and losing a successful coach to a bigger program and hiring someone to come in and keep it progressing upwards.

The merry go round of coaching is part of college FB. The coach who is not constantly moving up/down the food chain is the exception.

Family considerations might be the best thing we have going for us in terms of retaining Morris for at least one more season (so his son can finish up here). All the talk at Clemson was that "he gone" but as I recall he waited for his daughter's graduation before taking the SMU job. Unless the A$M job is offered after this season, I'm going to remain hopeful we have Morris and this staff for at least one more year and that would give Coach Traylor another year to demonstrate that he might be a good candidate to replace Chad, assuming Traylor is even interested. He would also be in a position to assess the current staff (or at least any that Chad doesn't take with him) to see if anyone would be retained.
I agree with those who say it's depressing to even have this discussion right now, but it's the price of success in this business and it's a good thing that Chad has found success at SMU, something that has proven difficult to accomplish. At least he would be leaving with the program on an upswing, so finding a good successor and maintaining some momentum will be critical for the future of the program.

So they'll go get Morris in 3 years after they end up firing Miles for the same reasons LSU fired him.

I'm surprised that the old Pappy Slocum, Gene Stallings etc... haven't been mentioned.

I concur. Is there any way possible that we can quit this pennywise / pound foolish nonsense? I would much rather show Coach Morris some (well-deserved) love rather than starting over again. Is it really worth the risk?
Chad here is a Hug. It's all I have. Please look at D and make an adjustment for the future. As Greg Gardner put it. In ten years there will be a great LB recruit. Bo. "Ten more Years." I should make a sign for Mustang Pre Game Walk. "Ten More Years"

Chad would take a little more money but a half million spread over his assistants would do more to retain him than more money for him.
Change D C and pay the others 50 grand more. Talk about a Happy Staff. Make it a great place to work for the staff and Chad will think hard about leaving.
