Stallion wrote:...and about half of SMU fans are afraid to play Big 12 teams in the regular season. That's one of the reasons that SMU must play a representative non-conference schedule or we become irrelevant like NTSU in the minds of many Texans-because the bowl schedule doesn't allow an AAC team a shot at a decent P5 team unless you make the Big Bowls. Note some of the AAC bowl games against P5 schools may not even take place because say the 8th place Big 12 or 10th place SEC team isn't bowl eligible anyway. Even if they have enough bowl eligible teams its often a weak 6-6 team.

You are absolutely correct. We can't continue scheduling more than one SLC/Sunbelt/CUSA team every year if we hope to
become relevant again.

I have no problem with TCU and UNT every year but would be nice if we could rotate Baylor and Texas Tech (provided we can get home/home series) as our 3rd non-conference game and then find another P5 team that might play us home/home

We need to pad the schedule for another year or two. Nobody would be talking about improvement and how much better we were blah blah if we had the same schedule we had where we lost to 3 ex SWC teams before October.

Im fine doing that in a year or two when we are more established, but no thank you to 0 and September and 4-7 seasons that we lost valiantly in all year.

Don't we have Michigan and TCU next year along with UNT and FCS? I agree another Big 12 would be good or Arkansas. Any chance to get them back? Nice to get UNT early each year to see what we have and get a game under our belts before TCU + whoever.

Every time we take a game like Michigan (with no return trip from them), we are pretty much forced to schedule an FCS opponent to balance the home/away schedule. This season's schedule was a rarity with 7 home games, but we are set up to have TCU and UNT games alternate as home games for us so we would need to find 2 home/home opponents to balance the schedule going forward.

I completely agree. Win 8, 9, 10 games or more each year for a few years. Contend for and maybe win a conference championship or two. Go to bowls. Start to break into the top 25 every once in a while. Have even more success recruiting. Then schedule like you are a perennial contender. I believe we are on the right path. Question is can we stay on it or will we be derailed? You have to walk before you run.

I would whine about this bowl but choking two games away. I’m good with the pointless bowl now.

We all get you aren't a fan of this game. No need to repeat it multiple times each week.

I also personally hate this bowl, but good for the players and better for the program than no bowl.
