Re: Can SMU be the Notre Dame of Dallas?homecoming every game.
Re: Can SMU be the Notre Dame of Dallas?I like cheaper concessions, and obviously we need more students actually coming to games, which requires buy in from the sororities and fraternities. But I don't understand the tailgating area suggestion. First, many of the people on the Boulevard are already inviting visitors to have a beer or food. I think "uppity" tailgaters are the exception on the south end of the Boulevard. Second, we have Mustang Alley, which is open to the public. Third, what is closer to the stadium that would be an appropriate tailgating spot that all these visitors turned off by the Boulevard would flock to? Some parking lot? Again, where exactly, and how is that more social or inviting than what we have. We tried the family-friendly tailgate area and it was like crickets chirping.

I love paying 8 bucks for nachos
Re: Can SMU be the Notre Dame of Dallas?
For me to take my family of 4 to the movies (2 adults / 2 kids) costs around $80 when you include popcorn & drinks & some other snack. Hollywood is taking a much deserved massive PR hit right now. If SMU had the reputation as a family-friendly venue one could attend for $40 (including food), it wouldn't hurt.
Re: Can SMU be the Notre Dame of Dallas? The relationship between the administration and the Greeks requires a serious effort of detante'
They will not return to the Blvd under demeaning circumstances. If you chase drinking off campus, there it is drinking off campus without attendance at football games. Two outcomes, neither which is desirable.
Re: Can SMU be the Notre Dame of Dallas?
A lot of theaters close by have cocktails now too that can go up over a hundred. I personally don't understand how people can afford to live Drive and eat
Re: Can SMU be the Notre Dame of Dallas?we could be the notre dame of dallas but you should run it by the Methodist bishops first.
Re: Can SMU be the Notre Dame of Dallas?I don't care if we become the next ND or not. I just want to see our program grow. We're working on the product on the field ✔. Can we work on a different attendance grabber? Billboards are a step, but we need to get families in seats. Maybe offer 4 pack specials, include 4 hotdogs and 4 drinks and a popcorn to share for $50. We migbt2not be the best team at the time, but well the most family friendly place, with people going to games.
Or, like another poster said, follow the model of The U (not the school I'd pick), USC, TCU...do something. I feel like weve tried those models, but maybe I'm wrong. All I know is, win or lose, SMU is my team. I buy my season tickets to enjoy time with my family, and root for my team. My 5 yr old son says he's going to play for SMU...thats what we need to grow....Rant over.
Re: Can SMU be the Notre Dame of Dallas?SMU needs to partner with DART and market a get to the game via DART program.
Park at any DART station, get off at the Mockingbird Station and ride the Pony Express buses to Ford. Have some special concession, like free popcorn, for showing your DART ticket. Just send 'da money.
Re: Can SMU be the Notre Dame of Dallas?SMU fans don't take DART and DART riders don't care about SMU. There is no mythical unaffiliated Dallas College Football Fan that will magically save this program from itself. SMU alumni, family and friends have to do that

Re: Can SMU be the Notre Dame of Dallas?
And that's not going to happen
Re: Can SMU be the Notre Dame of Dallas?Under the "Family" category I am kind of surprised SMU had dropped its affiliation with the Methodist Church ie MYF "Methodist Youth Fellowship"Day. When I was younger that would draw 4-5,000 or so with hundreds of busses going to the game. Baylor has always been far more successful in getting Baptist support for their program than SMU has been getting Methodists to identify with SMU.

Re: Can SMU be the Notre Dame of Dallas?
I remember attending a game years ago that offered free DART rides to anyone holding a ticket to SMU game. I seem to recall parking out in Richardson and riding in to Mockingbird Station and then taking a bus around to Moody? Worked out pretty well for the group I was with that year.
Re: Can SMU be the Notre Dame of Dallas? We could use 5k more fans per game. Even that modest increase would impact recruiting and image. This 5k bump would be in addition to the bump we get with TCU, UH, Memphis an Navy on the home card next year.
Two million people live close to Ford on our side of the plex. We have 5k undergrads on campus or close by. Pull out all of the stops, use any idea available to to get this 5k boost for next season. Take the plunge and finance the IPF and new soccer facility. Announce the IPF commitment now. If CM stays one more year we are sitting pretty. If he leaves we reload coaches and maintain recruiting mo. We won’t be Notre Dame, but we won’t be the recent SMU.
