Young & Hunt - DeSoto

Post by papawasamustang »

I got a first hand look @ the 2 new recruits @ the Lone Star Shootout in Frisco this past week.

Here's my take @ what I saw.

Young is every bit 6'9", athletic, good rebounder, & a very nice jump hook. Main thing is he needs to get in the weight room. This is a Ben Moore clone, except taller. Keep expectations in check, & he will be fun to watch develop over his 4 years @ SMU.

Hunt is a great athlete. Numerous dunks with his eyes @ or above rim level when he hammers it down. Can't really compare him to anyone @ SMU recently, but old timers might remember DeWayne Scales, " the astronaut", who played @ Dallas Carter & later @ LSU. I don't want to get carried away with Hunt's athleticism, but he has a chance to be very special, a game changer.

Other standout players @ the tournament:

RJ Hampton- Little Elm HS- All I can say is I hope his dad is loyal to SMU wants him to play here. This kid can do it all. '6'5" long, athletic, great leaper, sweet touch. Same build as Frazier, but he's better right now that Frazier was his senior year @ Kimball, or @ any stage of his playing career @ SMU.

Zachary Wrightsil- Prosper HS- under the radar, can do it all, 6'6 guard/wing. Reminds me of Jarrey Foster. Easily the 4th best player @ the tournament behind the 3 previously mentioned.

Jank & staff did a great job of getting these 2 from DeSoto. A lot of younger talent on the DeSoto roster & in their district that would also look really good in a red, white, & blue Mustang uniform.

Didn’t Hampton commit to TTech or was that Edwards?

Just saw one 247 that it was Kyler Edwards that I was thinking about.

Hunt scored just fine in AAU so I’m not worried about him scoring. He does need to keep developing his jumper though. It’s up and down. Crazy athlete.

Hampton might be the #1 player in the nation in 2020 class. He is a lock for top 5. He is a superstar.

Archie didn’t play in this tournament.

Box scores can be misleading. They scored when they had the opportunities. DeSoto is very team oriented, share the ball, run the O. Hunt really stood out in the transition game, Young when they posted him up & gave him the ball in the paint.
