I always liked Jr.. What he says is pretty true but no real reason to tweet it. He was one of the few that actually tried to recruit under tiki.

Tough to compare what JJ inherited vs what Chad did, so in my mind there is no question that Chad did the better job. Remember JJ inherited Justin Willis at QB and EMan Sanders at WR and flushed J Will in favor of Bo Levi to accomplish his abysmal 1st season, whereas Chad inherited arguably the worst team in Division I football. And let's remember that JJ "almost" had that ASU offer and an opportunity to bail on SMU after his early accomplishments. Reinebold just wishes JJ had been able to parlay his SMU stint into a P5 job so Jeff could have tagged along and enjoyed a nice pay raise. Looks like simple jealousy here.

Uh-Yeppppp. This guy's made 17 coaching stops since 1981. As a HC in the CFL he overwhelmed the Blue Bomber fans with 6 wins in 32 games. Now that's IMPRESSIVE!!

Remember - the year before we apparently had the "worst team in football" we were a GG injury away from going to our 5th straight bowl game. JJ did an incredible job for us. He wasn't Mr. Coach Speak.

The ASU negotiations were after the 2011 season so we had already been to 2 bowls and were scheduled to play in our 3rd.

2008 1-11
2009 8-5 Hawaii Bowl
2010 7-7 CUSA West Champs and Armed Forces Bowl --> flirtation with Maryland
2011 7-5 BBVA Bowl invitation ---> Beat TCU, No fan support v UCF --> ASU debacle --> reaffirmed "commitment" followed by BBVA bowl win

If only his tenure had ended there, everyone would be much more appreciative of his tenure at SMU.

Actually he took over in-season after an 0-8 start with the previous coach and went on to post a 6-4 record as head coach so the team finished a combined 6-12. Also it was the Hamilton Tiger-cats.

Didn’t Reinbold get fired from SMU for writing an article on how to beat the run and shoot offense? Also, June was in an easier conference with than Chad. The coaches are also better in the AAC than in CUSA. Don’t thinkJune could have done that in the AAC.

Our wins this year are:
SFA an FCS school
UNT a former Sunbelt school
Arkansas State a Sunbelt school
UCONN a former Big East school that tied for second worst in our conference
Cincinnati a former Big East school that tied for second worst in our conference
Tulsa a former CUSA school that was worst in our conference
Tulane a former CUSA school

Now which of these teams exactly was more difficult to beat than any of the the teams in CUSA during June's tenure? I am not arguing that June did not eventually destroy our program by failing to recruit, I am only saying that based on the results so far Chad Morris has not done anything special simply matching the results of the previous regime. Was he on his way to exceeding June Jones' results at SMU? I hope so.

Anyone being objective about Chad and JJ comparisons will have to admit they took our program to a similar level. Chad is leaving in a time frame when JJ wished he could have. Key is whether a new coach can build on the foundation currently in place.

I would agree with your basic premise, but I think the major difference is that when Chad walked out the door he was still in the ring and still fighting. I would say the same thing about PB (though my memory is slightly fuzzier on that). June was spending the month of January in the islands.

I don’t think JJ beat many teams over.500. And he did it with Bennett’s players. Once they graduated the program went down in a hurry. Now what was it that Reinbold did to get fired?

CM was fighting for his next job since day one.

did anybody else notice a change in chad's attitude this year? or was I just imagining it? didn't see him going out on campus and mixing with the students to try and promote the fball program like he did the first year.
