Fan supportI am new to this board and have attended a few SMU games this year. Why doesn't the student body support the basketball programs both boys and girls? Is it because most live off campus? Is it because the programs are not winning? What is the PR department doing to bring in the fans? It really is rather sad that SMU is the premier college in Dallas and you can see more fans at a Lincoln or Dunbar game than you do at a SMU game. What's up with that? Are the alumni very supportive? Just wondering.

Good to hear...SMU will be back for sure in both basketball and football, and soon...
I live in the area and have followed some of the new recruits and am interested in seeing how you can get Moody rockin! "Failure is not an option"
Welcome to the board. Moody hasn't really rocked since those concerts that were held there in the seventies and eighties. Elton John wuzn't bad. SMU's student body sucks. The remainder of SMU's fan base is dying off...look at the majority of the fans in the stands...the Blue Hair Mafia is thinning out day by day. "37"
So, after the game last night, my freind and I go over and check out the new facilities next door. THEY ARE PLAYING MEN'S INTRAMURAL BASKETBALL. DURING A MEN'S BASKETBALL GAME.
That kind of stupid crap is why there is not good student attendance at the game. The school doesn't do enough to inform students of the games, and make it easy for people to attend. There are too many entities within the school that treat it like a half-azzed program, which is what it is going to be like until they start respecting the athletic department by doing things like NOT SCHEDULING IM EVENTS DURING SMU ATHLETIC EVENTS. The school might also be able to get better attendance by making it easy for folks to find their way to the game. If you are new, trying to figure out where in the heck to park is a nightmare. There are NO signs up, nobody telling you where to go, nothing. If you ask an attendant, they will tell you to park in the lot next to the new gym. Yeah, that's right, the one that says parking is ONLY for cars with SMU decals and that it is monitored 24 hours. Winning cures cancer and all that stuff, but we have to make it easy for the people who actually want to come out and see a game.
We've been parking in the lot to the southeast of Moody and the new athletic facility for every home game this year. Last night the arms were down and we couldn't park there. Anybody know what's up with that?
I will tell you exactly what happened..smu wanted to make another buck on us.. I have a membership to the new rec and i went to work out there and low and behold the arms were down and my $50 a month did not pay for one cent of it.. so they charged me another 25 bucks for the year.. not 2 dollars a month to my membership, but 25 straight up.. now i realize 25 isn't' much but its the principle of it.. my tuition from 2000-04 paid for that rec adn now I am being to charged to park in a usually half used parking lot that us soley there for the freshman guys b/c it is too dangerous for the young 18 yr old girls to park in.. the only good thing about is that it should cut down on the break ins that have been quite frequent in that lot for years
It's true that people are more inclined to support a winner. It's tough to generate too much enthusiasm for a .500 team, but what kills me is that we don't play well at home. We are now 2-2 at Moody in CUSA games. One way to increase attendance is to WIN AT HOME...that's part of making it fun to come out. If we have to be mediocre, let's at least be tough to beat at home.
Of course, this is the old "chicken vs egg" question. If we had better fan support and Moody was a more hostile place for visitors, would we have won last night? My guess is yes. More enthusiasm from the fans = more energy from our team
