This provides the perfect fun opportunity for parents and their kids. Bring the kids to the Boulevard for trick or treating before the game. Everyone with a tent better be prepared for that. I know I'll be arranging to take off work early myself.

Then they've got a safe, interesting, fun place to go after they're done trick or treating.

I think the SMU students love a scene, as shown by the PJ party basketball game a few years ago, and will turn out to be on national tv on Halloween. The parties will most likely be the weekend before anyway, and any night of parties will start later than a 6:30 game should end.

nice idea, really it is, but you have to know the SMU alumni family. They are usually very social and have group, church and neighborhood events pulling at them for Halloween. This idea that they are just look for something to do aint the way it is. I wish I was more optimistic, but this is a huge challenge.

Good idea -- but make sure the contest (or the distribution of treats) is for the best SMU-RELATED costume. Start adorning fans in SMU gear at a young age.

I also like the idea about a big prize for a fraternity and sorority, but the key there is that it has to be a cool prize. When I was in school, a prize of a few chicken wings or a T-shirt with a sponsor's logo all over it wouldn't have gotten a single person to change their plans to go to a game (football, basketball, whatever). It has to be a real prize -- something these groups will really want (and don't say beer -- we know that's not happening.) Limo service for all to the formal, an extra rush round so they can get a leg up on the competition for new members, some sort of major publicity assistance for a philanthropy event .... something more than a t-shirt or a one-line mention in the Daily Campus.

I say again, this is what we are hiring a new AD for. This will be a true performance test. Heck, lets get Jerry Lewis to be the Honorary Monster.

Lets not doom the guy to fail from the start. All but your hardest of die-hards will choose other options. Again, the logic will be there are 5 other football games this fall so why break from whatever Halloween tradition they have?

I think if it is promoted properly and if we are not 0-7 at the time that we can bring in enough people to make Jstang use someones seats on the 30 rather than the 50.

I think we get the picture Hoop Fan...you won't be there. Sorry, you are going to miss a good time. :?

Seriously, I bet most of the other organized functions you are talking about will be held on the weekend prior to Halloween...so Tuesday should be available. Besides, Dallas loves any excuse for a party.

MY BIRTHDAY! Finally a game on my B-Day. Last year I got the present a day later by SMU beating UTEP. Hopefully for my 18th birthday I'll get another great present :D

This is a great idea as long as the kids have to come dressed in real Halloween costumes, meaning scary, not the happy-friendly feminized cartoon character crap that you see today. Haloween is about evil and blood and the undead, not pokemon!!!

The Students won't be the problem the people with kids will. Like other people mentioned, the students will get drunk dress up and make idiots of themselves in front of the cameras....Hell, I would have when I was in school. This will be one big pre-party for any parties later that night. I believe most will be the weekend before since Tues. is not a big party night. I can't wait, I can still pass as student and I might try. The early start is good for student attendance but bad for alumni attendance, I hope they, as some have suggested, incorporate trick or treating into the mix for families.

CS: You should dress up as John Blutarsky for the game.
