And immediately after that SMU changed its method of compensating football coaches, and six figure salaries like PB got were a thing of the past.

After allowing one of the Steubenville High School Rapists onto his Youngstown State football team, I doubt SMU would allow him on campus.

Head Coach Sonny Dykes Announces Mustang Football Staff Additions

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Head Football Coach Sonny Dykes has announced five additions to the Mustang coaching staff that will join previously announced Offensive Coordinator Rhett Lashlee. Chris Brasfield, Jamal Powell, David Gru, Trey Haverty and Anthony Crespino all join the staff on the Hilltop.

Chris Brasfield joins the Mustangs after three seasons at Nebraska where he most recently served as the Associate A.D. for Student-Athlete Recruitment and Experience, after previously working as the football program's director of high school relations. He will coach SMU's running backs.

Brasfield transitioned to Nebraska with Head Coach Mike Riley after three seasons together at Oregon State. He served as OSU's running backs coach from 2011-14. In 2012, he was recognized as one of the top 50 recruiters in the country.

He spent 2010 as a graduate assistant at Oregon following four seasons as the running backs coach at Samford. He also served in various assistant coaching roles at TCU, Midwestern State and Southwest Texas State.

A member of the NFL Minority Coaching Internship Program, Brasfield spent time with the Tennessee Titans in 2009. He also served as an intern with the Oakland Raiders in 2000 and was an area scout for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2001-02).

Brasfield has also coached at the high school level in Texas and Illinois.

Brasfield earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from TCU. He and his wife, Sherresa, have three children Tyson, Taylor and Truman.

Jamal Powell comes to the Hilltop after a season at Lamar, where he coached the offensive line. Prior to Lamar, Powell coached two seasons at James Madison where he helped lead the Dukes to two conference championships and the 2016 FCS Championship.

With Powell as offensive line coach, the 2016 JMU squad set conference records for scoring (700 points), rushing offense (4,125), total offense (7,612) and first downs (380). JMU led the FCS in completion percentage (70.8) and team pass efficiency (181.69) and ranked second nationally in scoring (46.7 ppg) and fifth in rushing yards (275).

Powell went to JMU from West Virginia State, where he was the run game coordinator and offensive line coach, as well as the program's strength and conditioning coach. Before WVSU, Powell held the same title at Seton Hill University.

Powell also served as a graduate assistant at Texas A&M and spent time at Centre College and Southwest Baptist University.

During his time at Texas A&M, he coached three All-Big 12 linemen, two of whom were selected in the NFL Draft. At Centre, Powell coached 13 All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference offensive linemen, three of whom earned All-South Region honors and one who was a two-time All-American.

An All-American and first-team All-Conference USA selection at TCU, Powell was a member of the Rimington Trophy Watch List and was C-USA's Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year. Powell graduated from TCU with a degree in speech communications and a minor in business.

Powell spent time playing for four different professional football organizations, including time with the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans. He also spent two seasons in the Canadian Football League.

He and wife Rachel have two daughters, Jaden and Ellison, and a son, William.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Gru will reunite with Dykes and serve as the wide receivers coach for the Mustangs. Gru spent the 2017 season at TCU as an offensive analyst and working with quarterbacks.

The Horned Frogs posted an 11-win season in 2017, reaching as high as No. 4 in the National rankings, and defeated Stanford in the Valero Alamo Bowl. TCU also made an appearance in the Big 12 Championship.

Prior to his time at TCU, Gru served as a graduate assistant working with quarterbacks and wide receivers at California where he helped mentor No. 1 NFL Draft pick Jared Goff, as well as draft selections Kenny Lawler, Trevor Davis and Chad Hansen. Lawler was a first-team All-Pac 12 selection, while Hansen earned mid-season All-America honors as well as a first-team all-conference nod. Gru also mentored freshman All-America selection Demetris Robertson.

Cal improved on its national rankings in passing offense and total offense each year from 2013-2015, while ranking in the top 10 in both during his final season.

Gru played three seasons at wide receiver for Louisiana Tech (2010-12). The Bulldogs earned a berth to the 2011 Poinsettia Bowl after winning the Western Athletic Conference.

Gru received his bachelor's degree in business finance from Louisiana Tech in 2012 and went on to earn to earn a master's degree in public health from Cal in 2015.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trey Haverty joins SMU's staff and will coach the Mustang safeties and linebackers. He comes to the Hilltop after spending a season as the defensive quality control coach, working with linebackers, at the University of Texas. In 2016, Haverty served as the Defensive Coordinator at Lamar.

Prior to working with the Cardinals, Haverty spent three seasons coaching at his alma mater, Texas Tech. He worked with safeties and was the special teams coordinator in 2013 and 2014, before making the move to outside linebackers in 2015. In his three seasons with the Red Raiders, the team made two Bowl appearances.

During the 2011 and 2012 seasons, Haverty coached safeties and wide receivers at TCU, helping the Horned Frogs to two Bowl berths and a transition to the Big 12. The stop was his second in Fort Worth after spending three seasons (2007-09) as a graduate assistant with the Horned Frog defense. In his final two seasons as a GA, TCU went 23-3, with the No. 1-ranked defense in the country, and earned a berth to the Fiesta Bowl.

In 2010, Haverty served as the Defensive Coordinator at Millsaps College.

Haverty began his coaching career in 2005 coaching wide receivers at Midlothian High School. In 2006, Haverty began his collegiate coaching career working with the receivers at Cisco Junior College.

A four-year letterwinner at Texas Tech, Haverty began his career as a walk-on and went on to lead the Big 12 in receptions as a senior and earn second-team All-America honors from Sports Illustrated and third-team honors from the Associated Press.

Haverty earned his bachelor's degree from Tech in 2004 before going on to complete his master's at TCU in 2009. He and wife Christy have two children, Tripp and Blakely.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anthony Crespino comes to SMU after two seasons at Northwestern and will serve as the Director of Football Operations.

Before joining the Wildcats' staff, Crespino served three seasons (2014-16) as the director of football operations and director of player personnel at Texas State. It was his second stint with the Bobcats.

Prior to his time at Texas State, Crespino was the director of player development at Penn State in the spring of 2014 and the director of operations at Western Michigan in 2013. Crespino's first stretch at Texas State was in 2012 when he served as an assistant director of football operations and recruiting coordinator.

Crespino earned a bachelor of science in business administration in 2012 from Pittsburg State, where he served in various positions in the athletics department.

If SMU manages to poach TCU's Defensive Coordinator I guess it shows TCU is now a basketball school and no longer committed to football. Who do we emulate now given that TCU is no longer the model to follow given their lack of commitment to keeping their top notch staff?

I hear they're unwilling to pay market rate. Only going to get what they're willing to pay for.
