Tight end commits to SMU

SMU received a commitment from Friendswood, Texas tight end Ben Redding (6-5 / 225), per his Twitter account.

Redding reports offers from Boise State, Western Kentucky, Texas State, UNLV, Central Arkansas, Lamar and Louisiana-Monroe.

Seems like there was only one choice if was thinking about the value of his degreee

Watched his Hudl video earlier-This kid isn't bad-he plays more WR than TE and may not be as strong as will need to be to get on the field as a traditional TE but he's pretty strong for a skinnier kid. Explosive burst for a big guy and can outrun DBs at least in high school. Should be a mismatch against LBs and can get downfield. Looks like he's got good catching technique too catching the ball with his hands away from his body and makes some tough catches in the air. Probably won't be ready for TE in short yardage though anytime soon

Most interesting is that we are still recruiting TE, which is further evidence that this won't be a true Air Raid offense...

Always interesting to see how guys develop physically once the get on campus and spend a few years in the program. Nice to see a guy with a big frame and ball skills added to the mix.

I assume he will redshirt. Maybe in a few years he will put on a lot of weight and be a beast.
