Re: OFFICIAL: vs Wichita State 2/24/18 threadOur interior defense is abysmal without Foster.
I miss Troy Matthews.

Re: OFFICIAL: vs Wichita State 2/24/18 threadtough losing at Moody but we pretty much knew we had no chance without Shake and probably needed to be full strength (with Jarrey and Ray if needed) to beat these guys twice this year.
If there is a silver lining in this loss, our frosh shot a combined 7-10 from the field including 5-8 on threes. They also pulled down 6 rebounds, had 6 assists vs only 3 turnovers and added 4 steals. Best they have played collectively this year. We are really missing Chargois as a double figure scorer. Hasn't had a good offensive game since his ankle injury, but I thought he looked/moved better today.
Re: OFFICIAL: vs Wichita State 2/24/18 threadBig improvement for Douglas. No hesitation on the catch.
He drilled 3 perfect ones. He could be the next Sterling. He has all the tools. Party at The Wopper!

Re: OFFICIAL: vs Wichita State 2/24/18 threadI thought that this would be a 25 point loss because of their offensive capabilities. We have really come a long way offensively the last two games.
McDuffie was the difference. He hit all of his shots and is the one who spread the game open. He also defended McMurray and his length prevented McMurray from getting shots during that run. Their length is interesting. We had no shot on the boards with two 6 footers in the starting lineup. They can shoot and the length means they can screen really close to the line and use the length to shoot over. Could be an interesting tourney team with the right matchups. Depth, length, and shooting could run your ragged. But their defense isn't good for the most part, and they will have an off shooting night and not be able to get stops. Kind of like against us up there and against OU. With Douglas it is interesting. Reaction to him is kind of like Keith. Everyone wants him to succeed, which is nice. He certainly puts in the effort. In the first half, he was completely out of place on the court. He was basically the guy at the end of the bench who shouldn't ever see the floor. Turned the ball over, got in the way offensively. Scared to death. Really showed he isn't ready to play. In the second half, much more involved. Hit 3 nice shots and showed his stroke (again like Keith). But then passed up an open three in the corner at a critical point and McMurray had to force from way out instead. Critical turnover on a drive and can't finish at the rim at all (again, Keith). His game is nothing like Sterling. Sterling always had a nice shot, but he also was always physical. And he was an emotional leader from the jump. Douglas is weak mentally like Keith when he came in. Easily rattled, probably because of the low level of competition in high school. Lacks strength physically. Has a nice jumper. I see much more Keith in him right now than Sterling. Not implying that he is going to be a washout or whatever. So don't take it that way. But right now he is a 6'5 guy with a jumper who is physically weak and gets emotionally rattled. Like Keith his freshman year. Really thought it was funny when the MOB put the balloons in the shape of "FBI" in the second half. It was great to see how much Witchica travelled. Really exciting moving forward. Maybe you couldn't see on TV, but they were up on the ends of the court. Good showing from them, better than anyone else in the past, and I bet a better showing than we get from Houston on Thursday. I thought the crowd was really trying to keep the team in the game and willing them on. Saying Moody is over is such crap, the team just isn't that good right now. If we had a good team that place would have exploded.
Re: OFFICIAL: vs Wichita State 2/24/18 threadThanks for the at the game perspective Jason.
You are right about Douglas being more like a keith than Sterling right now. I’m just hoping he evolves. He has the body. He needs the mind. If he works in the gym as hard as they say he does I think he can get the confidence. As Hoop has stated so eloquently he basically played with and against slow white homeboys in high school. You can see that the game is still moving faster than he is. But I think he sees it too. That can change. He may never match Sterling’s intensity but few can. I’ll settle for sterling talent and Gu intensity. That should get her done. Party at The Wopper!
