OFFICIAL vs Houston thread 2/28/18Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: OFFICIAL vs Houston thread 2/28/18Jank has to go land Wendell Mitchell and a quality big man for next season. We should have a good 5 guys in Foster, Whitt, McMurray, Mike and Chargois, but desperately need two more high end players.
If Shake is back we would be a conference title contender. Not counting on it though. Without him back we need Mike to be a stud, Chargois to get stronger and get back to early season Chaggy, Foster to be pretty close to 100% and add 1-2 quality contributors to be more than a bubble team.

Landrum, easy
Re: OFFICIAL vs Houston thread 2/28/18Front court: Jarrey, Mike, Chargios, Hunt, Ray. I think that competes for a conference title. Swap Ray for a transfer and it looks great.
Guards: Shake, Whitt, McMurray, Landrum, Douglas. This is our problem spot. - Douglas won't be ready to start for a championship team. - Landrum has quick hands and burst and hops. Some potential, but probably not a starter for a champ - McMurray is very short for a shooting guard and he isn't a point. Turnover machine and hot cold. He makes Nic look all NBA on defense. On a champ team he is instant offense off the bench. Maybe I am over judging him, but that is my read right now. - Whitt could maybe start on a champ team because of his length and unselfish play, as long as he is surrounded by primary scorers so that he can effectively drive. He can't play the 2 because he isn't an outside threat. He absolutely has to be the one. If Shake comes back, I need another player to run the 2/3 with Whitt at point, that player has to be able to score from deep, and that player isn't on the team right now. I know, McMurray, but like I mention above I don't think he is a good enough overall player to start on a good team. He obviously fits this spot with the current lineup. If Shake doesn't come back, I need a scorer and another player to run the 2/3. My other problem is that I now have McMurray coming off the bench for instant offense, and another short guard coming off the bench as well in Landrum. I can't have two maybe 6' players on the court, it is a disaster, and they don't play the same role so I can't just sub them in and out for each other. If the staff doesn't view McMurray or Landrum as a starter next year, that could be a reason why they would be interested in Landrum walking.
Re: OFFICIAL vs Houston thread 2/28/18I do not have nearly as much of a worry about talent as I do cohesiveness and team work. We were just running around like a asphalt pick up game with five guys that did not know each other. I am going to blame that on injuries and lack of numbers for practicing for now. We have to get back to the pass and assist team we were.

Re: OFFICIAL vs Houston thread 2/28/18It was nice to see Gu get one final somewhat highlight reel basket in Moody and a curtain call.
I have always thought Sampson is kind of a jerk but that was classy for him to shake Gu's hand and applaud him as well. Shake It Off Moody
Re: OFFICIAL vs Houston thread 2/28/18Love the fact that Jank mentioned and thanked the crowd for sticking with this team...he mentioned having a strong home crowd is the # 1 factor in building a strong program and this is what many of us have been saying for years. Let's hope our bball support remains strong and it would sure be nice if SMU could find the support needed to build it's football program as well.
Re: OFFICIAL vs Houston thread 2/28/18To judge McBlunt off this season isn't fair. Kid came in mid year, after sitting a full year and only practicing since way later than most, then had to fold into the chemistry w/3 experienced guys starting. As he was finding his way through that minefield, he was then thrust into the only scoring option again like a USF redux for him. So, he's a flamboyant chucker who is forced to score at a rate that takes him playing any D off the table.
That said, moving forward, need more alpha bucket getters. Can't have two sub 6 footers in rotation. Its not a thing. Too much to cover up, too often. You're much better off being smaller up front than in back court, imo
Re: OFFICIAL vs Houston thread 2/28/18
Exactly the reason I don't see Landrum back next year. Honestly not sure why we brought him in in the first place with McMurray already in the fold. No knock on Landrum, but we can't have both on the roster getting minutes and we don't have enough ships to have Landrum sit for two years. I think he and Agau will be gone. Sure would be great to replace them with Hinson and Mitchell. Would still be shocked if Shake were to come back though.
Re: OFFICIAL vs Houston thread 2/28/18Does Rob Gray know how [deleted] that man bun looks?

Re: OFFICIAL vs Houston thread 2/28/18Sounds like most of us have the same thought. To add to this we are going to go back to being a majority man-man defensive team next season. Can't do that with 2 sub 6'0 guys. As Jason B said McMurray would be best being our 6th man who can play 20+ mins off the bench where teams can't pick on him as much defensively (see Tulane). I think your a little harsh on McMurray for the reasons Hoop gave and McMurray can help push this team over the top with the right personnel. Once he acclimates more in the offseason he could be a star for us next season.
We desperately need another bucket getter in the backcourt next season whether Shake returns or not.
Re: OFFICIAL vs Houston thread 2/28/18McMurray has reined in his game significantly. Just about his only bad shots these days are at the end of the shot clock. We'd be losing these games by 30 -40 without him. Yes he's a creator but he's creating at a pretty high percentage when nobody else wants to take a shot.
Averaging over 20 ppg over last 9 games and hitting .439 from 3 point range on the season-better than Shake and 2nd only to Emelogu. Also better than Semi, Jarray and Milton last year on 3 point %. Does he know or care that it causes baldness?
Re: OFFICIAL vs Houston thread 2/28/18
This is huge on a bad team. How high would his percentage be on a good team with open looks.
