Tubbs For Davis

If it smells like Tubbs did something wrong I vote we get Mike Davis in here along with his boy shady.

don't be ridiculous. You really think that these guys simply pick the coach? The coach is half of it, but the other half is national tv and the Big 10 that Shady liked about IU. Tubbs is the only reason Shady is even considering SMU at all in the first place.

Rumor is Davis is already telling people he has OJ Mayo and Shady ready to commit to wherever he lands. If that were to happen, that's a pretty sweet duo.

You don't throw Tubbs under the bus for a one year blip in the program. If he committed a SERIOUS NCAA violation, that's a whole different story. But if its of the Majerus variety, we're not going to jeopardize a long term relationship with the DISD coaches just to get Davis in. And what if his "promise" turns out to be fools gold.

Maybe if Davis ends up at another high major. I cant see a premier program hiring Davis right away. I could see Davis ending up at a UAB or similar but its hard to imagine Mayo or Shady following him to a second rung major or mid major.

Hey, we jumped in bed with the Dallas area coaches when we hired Tubbs. Like it or not there are consequences to ending that relationship absent "good cause". Two seasons is not good cause. Finding a better looking coach is not good cause. A serious NCAA violation would be good cause. No Kool Aid just reality. And by the way if we threw Tubbs under the bus without good cause, no coach with any sense would come to SMU. Now if you were to trade Turner you would probably get a different answer from me.

fraud? The bs is getting thick around here. u know as well as anybody that high school coaches cannot simply dictate where players end up. Tubbs will get a Dallas player like Sasser, Ross, Davis, or BHop when there is a good fit between the player and program. He was close on Odufuwa and considered by Beal, sooner or later he will get one, and then another one. Sorry, but not all kids want to go to SMU even if they like Tubbs and their hs coach likes Tubbs. Its not that simple.

Not true. Not one DISD coach or administrator can "deliver" a player. The player may be influenced by his coach but always makes his/her own decision. The DISD coaches try to help Coach Tubbs alll they can...but sometimes, there are circumstances that may not a "fit" for SMU. Trust me,...or if you care to trust me...trust Coach Sampson when he says "Coach Tubbs will make it alot harder on all of us who want to recruit Dallas". Evidence the two commitments he has for 2007.

If a HS coach can't heavily influence where a kid goes to school why did Alabama boosters pay so much to HS coaches to get their athletes?

Personally I do feel sort of abandoned by the HS coaches of Dallas, they really forced us to hire Tubbs (and for the record I was in favor of hiring Tubbs and in no way am I saying that we should be getting rid of him now), and yet they haven't yet seemed to deliver on their promise. In fact, what are they even doing to help us?

It would seem to me that they have it within their power to make Dallas the college bball mecca if they could convince their guys to stay home and bring notoriety to the town. As evidenced by the DMN everytime there is any player from the area on a national champion team, they could come here and be as big a media darling as Dirk, Nash and Finley were. Are coaches playing this up? Are the HS coaches telling them how great they could really be if they stayed at home, especially if some of the kids chose TCU also, can you imagine how huge the rivalry would be here and how much exposure it would get nationally if there were two top 15 bball teams in the metroplex? Football may be king, but we love our bball too.

sorry about the random rant.

is that a serious question? There are corrupt hs coaches who do corrupt things, Alabama had one main guy in Memphis who I believe was pimping players. I'm pretty sure you would not want Tubbs to be involved with those types.

I'm not necessarily advocating that we pay coaches to get us players, just that they HS coaches do have a huge influence and I am a little disappointed in the "help" we have gotten from them so far.

They can't help, but they sure can make life harder on the competition. They can deny access to their players. They also know who's playing by the rules and who's cheating. If some of our competition started seeing themselves ratted out by DISD coaches, it would really even the playing field.
