Simpson had the body of a 3??? He had all the body he needed to be a very effective 4 in the WAC. You forget, we aren't in the ACC or Big East here. 6'9 230 with a 7ft wingspan was quite the good size for a 4 in the WAC or in CUSA for that matter. Even when we played Wake Forest, Pat was bigger than any player this side of the wide bodied Williams guy they had. And even if you were to argue he had a body more suited for the 3 spot, he did not have any of the skills that go along with playing the 3. He could not put the ball on the floor at all. His outside shooting was certainly not on par with what you would expect from a 3. So as far as I can see, he was playing the only position anyone in their right mind would have played him at.
And Castro was just short for a center and too slow to play anything else. But he was a banger. And again, I don't remember any 6'10 280 centers dominating the WAC do you?
I am just tired of hearing people make excuses for coaching, for players, for any reason for losing. Look at CUSA this year. There are 4 legitimately good teams. The rest suck and would be considerd in the bottom half of DIA hoops. Period. Could we have better talent? Yes. But whether it be coaching or the players or a combo of the both not holding up their end of the deal, we always dissappoint.
I still support the team. I still go to games. I still hold out hope we can make a run in the CUSA tourney this year. But please do not make excuses for our short comings. Especially ones that hold no weight such as the Simpson one previously made.

whah, whah, whah, we always disappoint. Quit crying, that is not this teams fault. Are u kidding about Pat being all we needed in a power forward for the wac? Since you took that tone with me, I would tell you in all honesty to get a clue. We regularly got outmuscled by WAC opponents and our big guys could not defend shots in the paint. Remember Fresno, Nevada, Hawaii, Tulsa, all had true power forwards year in and out. Being 6'8 doesn't make somebody a power forward. And think about what you said. Simpson didnt have the skills to play the 3 so he was a 4 by default huh?

"Since you took that tone with me..." Aww did I hurt someone's feelings by disagreeing with them?
The mention I made to this years team was simply that I do not excuses made for it, as you tried to make for previous teams in your post.
Your arguement is that Simpson was played out of position at the 4 yet his size and skills make him a clear candidate for playing in the post. And yes, your size and talents are EXACTLY what makes someone what position they are. No person in their right mind would claim him as a 3. And I did not say he was a 4 by default, my point was i cannot see anything AT ALL that would lead you to believe he is a 3 being that his size was suited for the post and his talents were as well. What would make you think he should be a 3??? Did he play weak and without any heart? Yes. I have said that all along about him. But he is not out of position. Castro truely was. A 6'6 center will not get it done no matter how much heart they play with (which he did). Simpson played exactly where he should have.

Regardless of a 3 or 4 - he was a finesse player and should have been *coached* into being more agressive down low and being in better positions. He had some decent skills. He was tall enough to dunk but how many times did you see it that or him agressively attack the rim.
With that said, last years team was ok - they definitely should have had a better record than they did.

we'll agree to disagree I guess because Pat was not a 4 in any way. He liked to face the basket and jump shoot from the elbow more than he liked to post up. He didnt rebound like his counterparts in the WAC, and he had a VERY hard time defending other 4s. To me that makes him similar to Pearson now, who flourishes against 3s because he is not big enough to match up with 4s in CUSA or whereever. Now I am not saying that makes either Pearson or Simpson prototypical 3s skills wise, I'm just saying that these guys were not the right fit at power forward on a good team. Yea, anybody can play any position, doesnt mean the team can win that way.

"they definitely should have had a better record than they did".
--this exact phrase has been utilized to describe each and every team since 1992 by multiple posters. What does that tell you. Over and over-year after year you guys show you have no clue what is wrong with this program.

Tells you we are mediocre and continue to be mediocre..... What else?
I love how you pick out lines and make it relate to the last 20 yrs.
I have a clue and get your model/admin point for the 1000th time, but they SHOULD have been better last year. Yes, the damn model needs to change, we get it Stallion...thanks.

Going back to my original question, I now know that SMU will go One And Done in the CUSA tourny as result of the thrashing we got from Tulsa. If you allow for hte cupcakes on this years NC schedule, we have a weak, losing team. I am really disappointed because I thought Tubbs could have an impact on the program by now.
