Wyatt Name To Wuerffel Trophy Watch List
FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (SMU) – Senior Jordan Wyatt added a spot on the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List to his preseason accolades for the 2018 season.
The Wuerffel Trophy, known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is presented annually at the All Sports Association's Awards Banquet in Fort Walton Beach. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Wyatt has participated in various community service activities at SMU, including visits to the Children's Hospital here in Dallas, youth clinics and Habitat for Humanity. He received his degree from SMU in applied physiology and sport management with a sport performance leadership concentration and is working toward a Master's in liberal studies.
The senior ranks atop SMU's all-time lists with five defensive return touchdowns and four career interception return touchdowns, and finished 2017 with 288 career interception return yards, also the most for a Mustang. He became just the sixth player in FBS history to record an interception return and fumble recovery for touchdowns in the same game.
Wyatt is also a nominee for the AFCA Good Works Team and has picked up preseason accolades from College Football News, Athlon Sports and Dave Campbell's Texas Football.
